DCS 5300 can't access camera
« on: August 17, 2013, 12:56:56 PM »

Could someone help me figure out why I can't access my camera outside my home network please?
I'm using a centurylink router and put in the cameras ip address and opened ports 5000-5004.
Should I type in my routers ip address to access the camera or the cameras ip address?
Please help.
Thanks!!!

When accessing devices on your network from a remote location, you need to use the IP address assigned to you by your ISP. Additionally, you'll have to setup port forwarding to make your camera visible outside of your network. Once configured, you can use the following nomenclature:

  • [IP_ADDRESS]:[Port_Number]
  • e.g. 123.45.67.89:8080

When you are outside of your network, you need the ISP provided IP address to uniquely identify your network. The port number will uniquely identify the device within that IP address.
