Title: DNS-343 Firware Upgrade Problem + RAID Setting Restriction
Post by: jasbuh on July 15, 2013, 03:18:22 AM
Hi Support

I have an issue with my D-Link DNS-343. The NAS won't accept a firmware upgrade no matter which firmware I try to upload to it, also upon power loss the NAS returns to factory settings i.e. does not lose RAID Settings but reverts hostname + time settings + IP etc. I am attaching screenshots of the problems mentioned I'd appreciate any kind of help on this matter.

Thanks!

Did you try restoring the DNS-343 to the factory default settings?  While the DNS-343 is powered-up, press and hold the reset button on the rear of the unit for > 8 seconds.

What firmware version is currently on the DNS-343? Where exactly (what URL) did you download the firmware files from that are failing to upload?

Hi yes I tried resetting to factory settings. I downloaded the firmware from d-link support UK, Taiwan and US. None work. I am using Chrome Browser to upload the firmware, it shows as uploading 100% then I get the attached screenshot with firmware upload error. I also took the NAS Apart and removed the on-board battery to reset it the hard way but still nothing changed. it seems like the firmware is locked cannot be updated nor downgraded.

Current Firmware Version 1.02

Chrome may be your issue.  Use IE for firmware upgrades. Many D-Link devices have issues uploading firmware using browsers other than IE.  I personally have used IE and Firefox on my DNS-343 without issue.

Try using Firefox.  Yes, you have to extract the archive.
IE 10 has so many changes that it's not a stretch to surmise that firmware upgrades may fail as a result.

What hardware version do you have? (A or B)
You can find this information on the serial number sticker on the DNS-343.

jasbuh -- I reached out to D-Link and was told that the symptoms your DNS-343 are exhibiting are indicative of a hardware failure. That said, the recommended course of action was to contact support. If the unit is still under warranty (i.e. less than a year old), then you should be entitled to an RMA.
