Title: DGL-5500 susceptible to backdoor access to admin page?
Post by: MonkeyMind on October 13, 2013, 06:39:53 PM
If you google search "dlink router backdoor" you'll see a link from devttys0.com which details a security issue with some Dlink routers.  I'm not sure if the DGL-5500 is affected but is there any response to this from dlink and an incoming fix? (if needed)

Those tested were all Phased Out routers, accept for the DIR-100 in EU and is not sold in the USA, that are no longer in development nor marketed and may not see any fixes for this. I notice also that there are no newer gen routers listed or tested for this hack either. Reading some of the comments farther down the article, users reported not finding this problem on a DIR-616 and DIR-655. IF your concerned about this, I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and inquire to check to see if your model router is actually effected by this. I have forwarded this onto D-Link for further review and information. Please be patient.

UPDATE: 10/15/2013
D-Link is aware of this issue and notes that only those listed in testing are effected by this problem. Those listed are products only sold in the EU and thus were developed in the EU region. These were not developed or marketed in the NA region. Most of those products are no longer developed or supported any more as they have been phased out. If anyone in the EU region has one of these older model routers, either phone contact your EU region D-Link support office and inquire about this, inquire about a newer model router they recommend getting and get into a newer model DIR series router that is not effected by this issue.

D-Link EUs FB official statement: http://dlink.to/17vk7HJ (http://dlink.to/17vk7HJ)

There has been some confirmed verification from other D-Link router users that other model routers testing here in the NA region are not effected by this and this region should not be effected for D-Link products. Specifically, DIR-615, DIR-655 and EBR-2310. The DGL series of routers are a NA region only driven product and is not effected by this. D-Link is continuing to review this and will let me know if something else comes up. I personally will review my model routers I have and will report my findings here and to D-Link. I presume for now, this seems to be an isolated problem that we are not effected by, and should not be affected any where else.

Keep calm and chive on!
