DIR-615 Email Notifications
« on: March 01, 2010, 10:39:26 AM »

I need help setting up the email notifications. I need the log emailed to me during a certain time of the day and it wont email anything. Even when I am in the log and push the email now, it does nothing. HELP! I've tried setting it up through hotmail, lmsn live, and gmail. None of them work. What am I doing wrong or what do I need to do?

Okay, since no one would help me out, I had to spend two days researching on why the email notifications would not work. Hopefully this will help someone else having the same problem.

DIR-615 C, w/ 3.11NA software

Apparently the only way this software will send the email, is if you have it sent through an email that uses port 25. (You may have to do some research to see if your email uses that port) I know that hotmail, gmail, and I think yahoo uses ports listed in the 100s, thats why they don't work. I finally went to my internet provider because they provide us with an email. We get internet through Cable One. During the research through them, I found out they use a special SMPT address that will allow traffic through port 25. I entered the required field and wallah!! I receive email notifications no problem. I found that if you log into your email that you are trying to use to send the email notifications, go to support or help from your inbox, search for your email's SMPT address, it will bring up the info and tell you what port they use. If it's not 25, I wont work, PERIOD!

Hope that helps someone!!

Interesting, I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with DLink about this.......I dont think even they know how to fix it so I gave up, the weird thing about it was I told the DLink rep that the email works just fine for my Dlink DNS-323 NAS and he was like well something must be wrong with your settings, I was using the exact same settings. Thanks for the info, I guess Dlink should post this info so its not misleading of a function.

Hello, I know that this thread is quite old, but I am really hoping you might be able to assist as nowhere else on the internet have I gotten as much useful info as I have from right here. I was also receiving a fail message when trying to email logs using various combinations of email accounts. Finally, I registered an email account with my ISP who uses port 25, and voila!

The problem is that I set up the logs to email "when full," yet they only email every 10 minutes (I'm not sure if this is standard) and the emails are BLANK. I mean, completely blank. When I go directly to the log and click "email now," I receive an email of the log without any problems. I have no clue what is happening between my active sending of the email and the automated sending of the email. I was wondering what schedule you had selected for receiving the emails, so I might try that, or if you had any clue what the problem might be.

Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

Does your ISP use any SSL or TLS authentication protocol by chance? Or just a plain text user name and password?

H/w: A2
F/w: 1.10NA
Region: Southeast U.S.

I'm not sure what exactly all of the SSL/TLS authentication stuff means, but if you're asking if I checked the box for enable authentication....then yes. I have done it both with and without enabling authentication for the outgoing mail address, and the "email now" works fine with both but the scheduled emails are blank for both.

I would say if your setting the emails from the router however the content with in the email is blank, then I presume there is a problem with the FW. Have you contacted DLink support? I might try level 2 there. Let us know how it goes.
