Title: DIR-665 - Operating Software Out of Date??
Post by: lwb250 on May 11, 2013, 05:22:42 PM
While performing some maintenance on my DIR-665 yesterday, I had to look at some log entries.  I discovered that the date was totally wrong, so I went into the page where you can set the time and date as well as an NTP server if you wish.

I was amazed to see that the year settings end at 2012.  Whether I tried to use my NTP server, set this manually, or use my computer to sync the time, it would not display the correct year.

This is obviously a design flaw, and due to the product's age (despite the D:ink web page for it showing that it is still in production) I doubt there will be an update to the firmware, but...

C'mon, folks.  How shortsighted can you be? Let's get a fix for this or make the product EOL.

You'll need to phone contact D-Link support and inquire about this. This is beyond forum help and is a known issue with other model routers.

This product has been phased out in Canada and presume it has been here in the U.S. and just has not been posted on the main web ste.

Good Luck.

Nice of DLink to keep their website up to date.

Imagine my surprise when I saw that there was a firmware update released today!  Imagine how much more surprised I was when my router refused the firmware update with an error stating that the file was not the correct firmware or corrupt.

Just another reason why I am never buying a DLink product again.

I see why the FW that was posted for the DIR-665 is failing. The information and link on the web site is incorrect. Sorry about this. I have forwarded this on to D-Link in hopes it will be corrected soon.

Hmm.  I realize this is a legacy product (that is still being sold) but I guess they're not going to bother updating the bad link to the non-existent firmware update?

The following link is working and the shipping FW on the page is downloading correctly for the NA region:
https://legacy.us.dlink.com/pages/product.aspx?id=62775b3463734e59b0437d4a4a511a11 (https://legacy.us.dlink.com/pages/product.aspx?id=62775b3463734e59b0437d4a4a511a11)

I again, I believe this was a limited production unit that probably didn't get enough release at launch time and may have been due to client side limiting HW that was not fully supporting of this router model at that time frame. Ya, there should have been some FW updates.

I would recommend getting in to a newer version or different model router. The DIR-835 still still being updated, however I don't know how much longer. IT's a good router. There are other alternatives out there that would work well for and are being updated. I'm working with D-Link to help in testing of FW and problems that users see on here.

I just think that over all, this router met the EOL time frame. You could still use it maybe as a wired AP connected to a newer router for additional range and wireless support if the WiFi is good on it.
