Media Server & PS3
« on: January 09, 2013, 03:55:52 PM »

Hi Everyone - was wondering if anyone would have information if the following is even possible.  Got the DIR-827 for Christmas and am trying to setup the media server so I can stream it from my PS3.  My question is - where do we map the folders on our PC so the PS3 can see it through the DLINK icon within the PS3.  Is this even possible?  Currently using TVersity, but now I have the Router I thought I can use it through the router?  I have no idea where to map the folders that are on my PC so the DIR-827 can see them.
When I go into my PS3, I see the D icon representing the DIR-827, but nothing is it it, which I can understand because I have no idea where to set it up?

Any help woul dbe greatly appreciated.

I believe once the Storage device is attached to the router, USB drive that is, and configured using the routers management page, it should work well. Items to enable are Storage, DLNA and Enable Multi-case Streaming.

I recommend the following as well:
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.

What Furry said is great for the router, but you have to do stuff on the PC's and PS3 too. I know because I just got this working for my dad. After doing what Furry said try these instructions too. I could write them out but might as well get them direct from Sony. Also, the link works best in IE, at-least for me. Notice you have to first set the media on your machines to be discover-able and then you have to tell the PS3 to look for it. Let us know if you have any trouble.

Unless your talking about using the USB port on the back of the router. If so, what are you connecting to it?
