868L Slow Speeds with new ISP Hitron Modem
« on: October 05, 2016, 06:48:07 AM »

I'm back !    I have now switched ISP's and have gone the cable route vs dsl.  That said, I'm having issues with speed through my 868L (ethernet and wireless) and after a couple of days of research, I'm back here looking for some support.

First, the Hitron Modem/router
-Hardwired directly to the device, I get 693Mbps/18.2 Mbps
-2.4 Ghz wireless 71Mbps/12.7 Mbps
-5 Ghz wireless 71.6 Mbps/14.3

I have DMZ'd the DLINK 868L by IP and MAC and get the following results ( I do not want to put the Hitron in bridged mode just yet)
-Hardwired directly to the 868L  6.8 Mbps/1.94Mbps (using exact same cable as above)
-2.4 Ghz wireless 6.32 Mbps/1.94 Mbps
-5 Ghz wireless 6.7 Mbps/1.96 MBPS

I have configured the 868L as having a 1000Mbps connection, and have all  the wireless settings the same as on teh Hitron (802.11 mode/WPA Personal/ Auuto WPA-PSK/AES etc) It seems no matter what I try, I can't get any better than approx 6Mbps through the 868L

I'm on Hardware Version A1 Firmware 1.1

Any ideas on how to increase teh speed through the 868L

Thanks

Is QoS enabled? Disable it if it is...

WOW !!  Quite the difference.  Thanks !!  I had thought QOS was off, but on double checking it wasn't.

However, I still think I need some tweaking.  Hardwired I shoudl have 1Gb service, and I understand due to 802.11 limitations, I won't get that much, but I do have a 802.11N wireless adapter on my laptop, so in theory, I believe I should be getting a theoretical 600Mbps, which I am not.

I have read that 802.11 ac/n are backwards compatible, so, should I set the 868L's wireless setiings to n or ac vs 'mixed', and let the device connecting negotiate the appropriate setting ?  Example, my wifes laptop is only 802.11g enabled (I know it's older, but she likes it).  If the 868L is set at n or ac, will it drop down to g to support older devices, such as this laptop, wii etc ?

Just trying to get the max speed out of teh 868l that I can.

Thanks again

AC mode is only supported on 5Ghz.
If you set single mode N on 2.4Ghz, your wifes LT won't connect as it doesn't support N mode. So you can set Mixed G and N mode, manual channel 11, WPA2 and AES only and Auto Channel Width and test. Some older G mode adapter may not support AES only so you might have to set mixed TPIK and AES mode.

If you have an AC mode supporting adapter then you can set mixed N and AC or AC only on 5Ghz and test with your adapter.
