Unable to access DAP-1522
« on: May 25, 2012, 02:38:07 PM »

More that a year ago, with guidance from D-Link Customer Service, I performed setup on a system consisting of a DSL-2640B (with wireless disabled) and a DAP-1522 as an access point. I included the 1522 so as to have an N network, since the 2640 is G. The system works fine and I'm able to stream via the 1522 to an N 300 USB Adapter. Internet access is fine, and I'm able to access the 2640 with no problem.

I want to add another 300 in a different location. To do that, I'll need to access the 1522 from my Windows 7 computer, since I've lost the passphrase that I'll need for the 300.

Everything that I've read tells me to connect the 1522 directly to my computer via cable and to temporarily change the network adapter settinge to:

IP = 192.168.0.x         various sources list values of 2 and 99 for x
          Subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
          Gateway = 192.168.0.50

Then to use a browser window to go to 192.168.0.50

Regardless of the settings that I use, the browser (IE9) always indicates that it can't connect with that address.

I'd greatly appreciate any advice on accessing the 1522, or on any alternative way to obtain the passphrase.

Thanks in advance and thanks to the moderator.

You you sure the DAP IP address is .50? could have it changed or have been set up to a different IP address? Can you ping the .50 ip address from a command box?

Thanks very much for your response, FurryNutz. Problem solved.

You’re on the money. The IP address is not 192.168.0.50, rather it’s 192.168.1.50, even though the former is described as the default value in the D-Link literature. Not sure why D-Link customer assistance told me to change it back a year or so ago, but shame on me for not writing it down.

Based upon your suggestion, I set about to learn more about the Network and Sharing Center. As a result, this is what I did:

1.   Disconnect the 2540 from the Internet.
2.   Connect the PC by wire to the 2540.
3.   Connect the 1522 by wire to the 2540.
4.   Steps 1, 2, and 3 are the normal configuration, with everything powered.
5.   Open the Network and Sharing Center on the PC.
6.   Click on “Public Network"
7.   Select “Home Network”.
8.   Cancel the “Share with other home computers running Windows 7” window.
9.   Click on “see full map”.
10.   Hover the mouse over the icon of the 1522.
11.   The Ipv4 address and the MAC address briefly appear. Copy the IP address.
12.   Click on the icon of the 1522.
13.   The login screen for the 1522 appears.
14.   Log into the 1522 and obtain information, including the passphrase.
15.   Return to the “Network and Sharing center” and reset the network location to “Public”.
16.         Reconnect the 2540 to the Internet.

Again, thanks for the help.
