DWA-566 Driver Troubles
« on: November 05, 2012, 11:28:22 PM »

Hi there,

Firstly, would it be possible to create a sub forum for this particular model? I couldn't find one, so I posted in the closest one I could find :)

I recently purchased the above mentioned wireless card. I did as instructed:

* Run the CD -> which installs drivers
* It then prompts to shut down and install the card
* Shut down PC
* Install card in PCI-e slow
* Start up

It didn't like that, kept saying no driver found. Open device manager and all thats new is an ethernet controller thing in the list, which has the little triangle with an exclamation inside saying it's not installed.

I try force it to install (Right click >> update driver >> Navigate to driver on the CD, etc) and that doesn't work.

Cutting it short, I gave up, restarted and BAM, the D-link software starts working and I can connect to my network and carry on.

More trouble comes when I shut down, every time! Everything can be working perfectly until I shut down and switch the PC back on again (restarting is fine for some weird reason - most of the time). As soon as it's back in windows, it complains about no driver being found and the same ethernet controller is listed in device manager.

So I have to repeat the process of uninstalling those unknown things, reinstall drivers, and restart the machine for it to work.

I've tried moving the card to a different PCI-e slot. Still does the same thing. I've also downloaded what I'd hoped was the latest drivers from the D-link website - but those don't work either.

Short of either leaving the PC on all the time, or repeating the installation process, has anyone got any ideas?  It's quite frustrating :/

My PC specs are the following:

* MSI 790FX-GD70 main board
* AMD Phenom II X4 (not sure which one, but I can check tonight)
* Windows 7 64 bit

Thanks :)

I recommend trying drivers directly from the main web site, those are usually more up to date.

Hey,

Been busy with exams and work, so I kind of forgot about this thread.

So after much confusion, I managed to figure it out.

The Support guys @ D-link were helpful, but didn't give much advice for solving it.

After thinking about what I haven't done (I pretty much updated every driver I could, and downloaded every available windows update) I realise the one thing I didn't do was update the bios on my motherboard.

After doing that, it worked. So I suspect that either:

- There was a faulty setting in the motherboard as it was used by someone else before OR
- The new bios fixed it
