Title: Backups list disappeared
Post by: zombiehype on August 16, 2016, 03:40:16 AM
Hi, I've had the 320L for just 3 days but I'm already having problems with the only functionality I was interested in. I set up a series of internal backups from volume_1 to _2, tested them and they worked fine. Now I logged in again to check and the list of backups completely disappeared. Not only that, but the page is totally unresponsive: nothing happens if you switch between local and Lan backup (normally authentication fields should appear), or if you click the buttons browse etc. So not only my backups disappeared, but I can't even enter new ones.
No matter what I do I can't get the page to work again: tried rebooting the NAS, the PC, 3 different browsers, different types of login (SSL and not).
The firmware is updated at 1.08

What browser are you using when your configuring the DNS?
Does IE or FF exhibit the same problem?
Did the DNS come loaded with v1.08 or did you upgrade?

thanks!
I'm in Italy (didn't change language though). I used chrome, firefox and IE9 and all have the same problem. The product shipped with an older firmware (1.06 if I remember correctly) and I upgraded it soon after unboxing.
Addendum: the unresponsiveness of the page looked a lot like a front-end problem to me, so I checked the inspector, and sure enough there's a js file missing, which I guess was in charge to manage form fields behavior and display data in this page.

Did you get v1.08 from the USA site? If so, I think you should downgrade to v1.06 and test again. v1.08 is for the NA region and may cause adverse affects on users outside of this region. v1.06 is the most current for your region:

I actually didn't check the locale of the upgrade. I'll do that and report back, thanks

I would do a factory reset, manually load the v1.06 Fw file, then factory reset once more then set up from scratch.
Be sure to clear out any browser caches before and after sending the FW file.

All working now, thankyou very much!
If it may be useful for anyone else, I also noticed that the backup pages linked from the application page and the home page (if you added it as a favorite via add/remove feature) are not the same page. The one linking from the homepage is /web/backup_mgr/local_main.html and doesn't work (js file missing as stated above), while the one linking from the application page is /web/index.html?id=schedule_backups and works fine.
Can't say if my problem was this all along, or I was actually experiencing issues with the firmware (good to know about the locale anyway).

thanks again FurryNutz!

Glad it's working now. Thanks for the additional info. Maybe something to pass along to D-Link for review.

Enjoy.  ;)

Guys, I want to post here a big THANKS to zombiehype!

I created a post 1 year ago, complaining about the same problem:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=64393.0

That time no solution found, I gave up. In fact I've been struggling with this problem during almost 3 years.

Last week, I decided to buy a new one, thinking that my unit was defective. I bought the same model, DNS-320L, trying to give it a new chance.
It worked for the first times and then the same problem appeared. Then started searching again on internet and found my own topic and the link to this topic.

I saw your solution here, and it REALLY works.
I can't believe it's just that. 3 years of struggle just because clicking on "favorite apps" instead of going on "Applications" menu and selecting "Local Backup".
I start to laugh hard here, mad at the programmers of this interface. Now I'll return the new NAS and happily use the old one.

Just to add, working perfectly on last firmware 1.08b08

Thankyou zombiehype, hope it will save someone's else life!

Just registered to thank you for this solution! All this time.. And it was just a link problem. Removed the shortcuts from my home page. Thanks again!
