In some instances, D-Link network camera owners may want to increase the network camera field of view (FOV) to a value greater than is physically possible with the camera.
Procedure
To increase the D-Link camera field of view, a third-party wide angle lens may be purchased and attached to the front face of the D-Link camera integrated lens. Detachable wide angle lenses are typically available in three different varieties:
- Magnetic Lens - A magnetic lens typically consists of a thin metal ring with self-adhesive tape that sticks to the circumference around the camera integrated lens. The wide angle lens contains a magnet at its base that is attracted to the ring. Once the ring is attached to the front face of the camera, the wide angle lens can easily be attached/removed as needed via the on-board magnet. A magnetic lens is not recommended for cameras containing Night Mode functionality, as the magnetic may interfere with the IR cutover filter, a metal component in the D-Link camera whose physical movement may be impeded by a magnetic field.
- Clip-on Lens - A clip-on wide angle lens, typically made for cell phones, physically clips onto the camera without the need for any adhesive tape or physical alteration of the camera. However, the wide form factor of the D-Link cameras may not be well suited for this type of lens. The workability of this solution will depend, in part, by the clip-on mechanism and shape of the D-Link camera.
- Self Mod - Using a bit of ingenuity, a non-magnetic lens can be permanently attached to the face of the D-Link camera using adhesive or some other form of physical attachment.
