broadband speed issue
« on: May 26, 2013, 11:00:41 PM »

My broadband upgraded to fiber yesterday, and the speed is stated 1000MB. I connect my laptop to the fiber device, and run speed test, the download rate hit 9xxMB. But when I connect them through DIR655 using cat5e cables, the speed decreased to 2xxMB. Any clue?

DIR-655 Setting:
Firmware Version :1.30EA,  2009/07/10
H/W Version: A3
QoS: disable
Region: HONG KONG.

Link>Welcome!

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
Has a Factory Reset been performed before and after the FW update?

What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have? Did you check the the ISP to see if the 655 was compatible with the Fiber ISP HW or if there was any configuration needed?

Dear Furry,

Thanks for your info.

I updated my original post.

And I tested the bandwidth using cat 5e cables. Today, i replaced them by cat6 cables, and the result is the same.

For the factory reset, i will try it as I am not sure if I had done it before or not.

Thanks again.

I just updated to firmware 1.35EA,  (2011/3/15). And I did factory reset before/after the FW update.
The speed remain the same. (download rate drop 3/4)

The fiber modem and dlink 655 is connected by a cat 6 cable, and connection using DHCP.

fiber modem brand is HUAWEI EchoLife HG863

I found this on internet
http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-reviews/30726-d-link-dir-655-a4-quick-review

WAN - LAN, or LAN - WAN is limited to 2xx MB

Is there a traffic shaping option on this Rev A4? If there is, you can try to disable it. IF this doesn't help you probably need to get into a DIR series router that handles faster routing speeds.

Also be sure to check to see weather or not the DIR-868L is available and supported in your region. Even though you might get it online from a different region, it may not be supported or performed as expected for regions that it was not meant for. I don't see the DIR-868L listed in your region. Might not be available just yet.  ::)

I see it's listed on the official "where to buy" for your region so I presume D-Links Hong Kong site will eventually get it listed.

Enjoy.

The dlink hong kong website is crap.

It has many dead links, and difficult to find the right information.

I saw that, couldn't even find the 868 on there for support. Hope someone will change that.

Enjoy the DIR-868.  ;)
