Title: New 880L Not Saving Reserved IP Addr
Post by: johnpd on June 03, 2015, 01:10:50 AM
I just installed a new DIR 880L router and went through the configuration setup. After putting in all the general changes I wanted to make with my main PC, I then started to bring up some of the other devices, two of which I previously had assigned static IP addresses. The first one (a NAS) happened to come up with the same IP address as I had previously assigned, so I enabled the "Reserve IP Address" and all was well. I then connected my printer (this is via a switch) and attempted to assign a static IP address to it. After entering everything and enabling  "Reserve IP Address", I clicked "Save", but it retained the original IP Address that the 880L had assigned to it. How do I get the IP Address reassigned and reserved. I thought this issue had been fixed?

Router 880L
Region: N.A.
H/W:    A1
F/W:    1.02

Edit: Well in looking through some of the other posts, I guess this issue of reserved IP addresses has not been fixed. This has been an issue since last year. When will a firmware update be forthcoming?

Thanks,

Have you updated to the more recently FW version?

Also you don't need to reset reservations on devices that have static IP addresses if they reside out side of the default IP address pool. I have my NAS, printer and camera on static IP addresses out side of the IP address pool and don't reserve them. All others are reserved that are Dynamic DHCP...

OK I updated the firmware to v1.04WW which is the latest on the D-Link U.S. site for the 880L. I went through the process of factory reset, update, and factory reset. It still refuses to retain the reserve IP address I set. Unfortunately the reserved addresses I originally set on my DIR-655 were all within the DHCP pool range. The DIR-655 had no problem with that. So I tried to set my NAS to 192.168.0.80 from 192.168.0.180, but it still refuses to retain the new one.

However, something strange did happen. I decided to power cycle the router. I shut down everything (other than my PC) connected to the router first. When the router came back up, it now showed the new reserve IP address (192.168.0.80) for my NAS. I thought AHA, it now recognizes the new address. I then powered up the NAS and the router changed the address back to the original IP address (192.168.0.180) it had initially assigned. Somehow it is remembering the previous assignment it made, and ignores whatever I assign to it. I did not restore a config file. I redid everything from scratch.

How many reservations are you trying to set? Just the one for the NAS? If your NAS is already set to .80, then theres no need to reserve it on the router since it's outside of the default IP address pool. Can you set a reservation on your PC?

What Browser are you using to set reservations and manage the UI?

Ok my 880L is back online as main host router. I have some saved reservations already. I notice that I do hit a certain point when I can't seem to reserve anymore devices with in the DHCP pool range. We are seeing this on the 890L as well. I have notified D-Link about this. Other than this, reservations are working in part.

Never mind. I figured out what was going on. The IP address for the NAS is assigned internally within the NAS by its config software. So regardless of what I assigned in the router, the NAS said sorry I am assigned as something else and the router reverted to that address. I had to change it in the NAS config software first, then it reflected what I had reserved in the router (192.168.0.80). I also was able to reassign the printer to an address outside the DHCP range. So I am good to go. Sorry for the bother.

I have my NAS at .34 and other devices using static IP addressing. Last nite I looked at saw my default DHCP IP address pool was at .1 thru .199. Was seeing .## addresses where I had not expected them. I changed .1 to .100. Better now. It's a learning experience.

Enjoy.  ;)
