disk storage "hangs" when accessing web interface
« on: May 11, 2011, 07:08:54 AM »

So this morning I went to download a backup of the firmware. I pointed my web browser at the IP of the management interface and the site never loaded.

About 60 seconds later I noticed that one of my VMs on the SAN was slow and eventually stopped responding. Eventually I could hear users in other offices asking one another if the CRM is down and if email is working.

I went to the server room, looked at the SAN and ALL the HDD activity lights were showing no activity. ??? ??? I found this nearly impossible as there are servers here that are hosted on this SAN and are in use 24/7. There is -always- activity on this SAN.

I closed my web browser and the SAN eventually came back to life on its own.

I'm running firmware 2.8.0.48 - does anyone know what could cause this? Or, is this what I can expect from a cr@ptastic D-Link product? >:(

i tried a few more times (only giving the browser a few seconds to load) to no avail. i waited another 10 minutes or so and it loaded.

so i get a useless email alert from my SAN at about 10am EST, "For storage array xstack, a Severe event has occurred. Please check the event log for more information." if the event was severe, why not save me a minute and tell me what happened?!  :-\

i browse to the logs and I CANT EVEN GO BACK TO 10am EST!!! the logs have already rotated over. pure genius! ;D

after throwing up my breakfast, I see that now i'm getting "Close Socket" Event IDs and all kind of weirdness in the log files. it just repeats, over and over again.
