Cannot connect to my laptop from DIR 655
« on: September 27, 2010, 12:33:19 PM »

I have had great success with my wireless connection until I format my drive on my lap top.
After getting the initial updates from Microsoft for windows XP, my download speed was very slow.
To make a long story shorter I reset my DIR 655.
Although I can see my router and it shows 5 bar excellent signal, the laptop shows it's trying to acquire the router's IP address.  It's just waiting for the network to connect.  It never connects.  On my task bar the signal strength is all green.  It does show I'm connecting @ 54 instead of 300...
I have windows xp pro on my dell laptop.   I as using the  Dlink DWA 652.  as my wireless card.
I have a 2wire DSL modem/router from AT&T.  Since my DKINK 655 is down I am able to easily connect to the 2wire.  I also have a DLINK bridge DP 1522. That also cannot connect to the DIR 655.

Make sure you put Service Pack 3 on the laptop, so that you have WPA2 support.

It must be installed as I was able to connect prior to my problems.  I'll confirm thanks.

I used the following wireless settings ( found in another thread) and all is well.

1) 802.11N Mode = 802.11N Only? ( I used all three modes)
2) Transmission Rate = Auto
3) Channel Width = Auto 20/40 Mhz
4) Security Mode = WPA-Personal
5) WPA-Mode = WPA2
6) Cipher Type = AES
