Cant view on MyDlink in chrome - other cameras working
« on: January 01, 2016, 08:31:02 PM »

I think this may have occurred after the whole java ordeal, but I can't remember an exact timeframe.  I'm just now getting around to fixing it.  I can access mydlink and my 5009L camera just fine.  When I pull up the 933L, it only shows a black screen.  All of the buttons are on the bottom, but no video or sound.  I can access the camera from the android app with no problem.  I also can't navigate to the admin options for the 933L by using the IP,  I get a message stating "The browser you are using may have difficulty receiving images and video. If you experience any issues viewing this page, we suggest using Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Apple Safari."

Things I've tried:
enabling NPAPI in chrome
rebooting camera
unplugging/replugging camera
rebooting my router

Any ideas?

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DCS? Look at the sticker behind or under the camera.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DCSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?
What is the distance between the Camera and the main host router?

Try IE or FF?

I found this with the search function so i will bump this thread instead of making a new one.

1. The plugin for Chrome has not worked for some time now (since sometime last year)

2 . It works fine with IE but i do not want to use other browsers than Chrome.

3.  Read the latest revievs for the plugin:   https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mydlink-services-plugin/ldibdoepbjbkkcbgndfljnphngpglhbb/reviews

4. I'd like to know the ETA on when the tech department are done making a fix for Chrome 45 or later...    if they are working on it at all.

I don't have any information regarding Chrome use other than Google is not preventing use of 3rd party plug-ins and that users need to use either IE or FF browsers for viewing mydlink.com services. I know this a inconvenience however Google has made it hard for Mfrs to configure services with there browser. I recommend users switch IE or FF.

Any more information regarding this needs to be directed to phone support with your regional D-Link support office.  '
Good Luck.

D-link should do monthly updates for the plugin instead of completely abandoning their Chrome support and telling users to use IE or FF.

You can certainly phone contact your regional D-Link support office and discuss this with them.

Nah... I have contacted them several times since December and they don't care about Chrome anymore.

I just thought i should post this on the forum so others who google for answers will understand the problem and don't wrack their brains over it.

(in case someone finds this in the future and is looking for a solution)

The D-Link developers, in their eternal "wisdom", decided to make it impossible for people to set up their camera using a modern browser.
Apparently "may have difficulty" is the same as "we won't let you do anything with your camera".

Thankfully looking at the JS on that page, you find that you can find the URL that would actually take you to the admin page: https://<camera IP>/eng/liveView.cgi
Phew.
Terrible software design.

I tried the app but it's very limited in terms of functionality. Really just meant for video streaming rather than setting up SD recording and such.

Unfortunately this and other cameras that do not work with modern browsers have been discontinued years ago and will no longer have any development. Modern browsers have removed NPAPI support which the cameras require. D-Link would have to re-write the code/firmware from scratch which is not going to happen. So yes you can say terrible software design for 2020, but in 2014 it was fine since browsers had NPAPI support.

Keep a copy if Mozilla's FireFox v52.9.0 ESR x32 bit browser handy.
Last time I checked it still worked for me with my 933L.
Also IE11 x32 also works.

You can set your user agent in chrome to IE 9 or similar and the page will work. Click the three dots at the upper right of chrome, choose More Tools -> Developer tools, in the developer tools panel choose the Console tab then click the three dots at the upper right of the developer tools panel (yes we are clicking the three dots from within the panel that came up by clicking the three dots. it is a panel within a panel.) from there choose More Tools AGAIN and then Network Conditions, you will then see a new pane open up at the bottom of the tools for network conditions, within that pane UNCHECK "select automatically" for User Agent, you can then pick the user agent you want the browser to act as and REFRESH the PAGE. IE 9 worked for me and allows me to log in and modify settings of old DLink cameras.

Thanks for this trick.

To view the RTSV (no audio), use http://ip.add.re.ss:port/mvideo.htm
and then the Chrome tools.

TIA
