Title: Shareport 4.6 won't work on OS X El Capitan
Post by: rdye56 on December 07, 2015, 12:01:17 PM
Will an update be made to Shareport to support Mac OS X 10.11.x (El Capitan)? 4.6 will mostly install but warns that the .kext file is incompatible (I believe it now has to be signed). Shareport will  run and "sees" my printer, but will not connect. (Computers having older versions of the OS are able to connect with no issue.)

Have you fully removed the software then attempted to reinstall it?
What Apple PC do you have?

Using the uninstaller to remove Shareport and then re-installing version 4.6 did allow the installation to complete without any errors. However, although my Epson printer appears in the Shareport list, when I try to connect I get the connection failed message. I am using a MacBook Pro 15" early 2011 12 gb RAM with OS X 10.11.1. (My older Macbook Pro with Yosemite can connect without issues, as this PC could before upgrading the OS.)

I'll have a look at this on my Mac Mini with 10.11.1 that I got updated last night and have a go with the v4.60.

I can confirm that this is an issue. I'm getting the *.kext file is not compatible with this version of OSX. I'll pass thing along to D-Link. Please be patient.

Is there any word on how long it will take to resolve this?

Nothing as of yet. You might phone contact them and ask for help and information on this. Please reference this thread.

Hello.  :D Any solution to this problem?
There is still no solution for 10.11 and 10.12?
Thank you. ::)

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Don't think there is any other solution for SP.
I recommend that you install a network print server device and connect your printer to it and then anyone on your network will have access to the printer when needed.

Forget the D-Link Shareport software if you are running OS X 10.11 or above- get the Silex version instead.  I can confirm that it works with 10.11 as I just installed it today and printed a number of things to my USB printer connected to my DIR-655 router.  The version you need is here:

http://hub.silexamerica.com/unwired/silex-releases-sx-virtual-link-usb-over-ip-for-macos-sierra

Go to the link marked "download on our website".  The other link, "device server setup for mac" is not needed if you are using a D-Link router as far as I could tell- it seems to be only for their products.  The Silex version looks almost exactly like the D-Link version so I don't know why D-Link doesn't have this.

Also, the download only worked in Safari, Firefox just showed a bunch of code.

D-Link stopped supporting Shareport a while back I believe. Since some newer generation routers don't support this software and there isn't a need for sharing of a USB connected drive anymore as well using Shareport. Some of the newer generation routers have sharing of connected drives built with in the routers FW.

Thanks for posting.

Good Luck.
