Hi all.

It has been awful quiet for a long time now.....any news when we will see something new...or is this product considered dead?

What version are you on? Where are you located?

I haven't seen too many complaints. What is there to fix?

Been only 3 months since last update. Not that long ago. This model has not reached EOL.

Probably not of any concern since he doesn't have the 890L anymore and is from the EU region. They are effected by this energy policy in that region  which reduces the power levels on the wifi.

Hi all,
while at the page
http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DIR-890L%2FR
there's a "Security Patch Firmware" 1.11B01 dated 11/09/16, at the Croatian support page the latest firmware is 1.10 dated 29.7.2016.
Any reasonable explanation why after few months I still can't find "Security Patch Firmware" at the Croatian support page?

Each region handles there own development and release of FW. I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

I emailed to D-Link Adria (ad-info@dlink.com)
http://www.dlink.com/hr/hr/contact-d-link
approximately one month ago, but I haven't received any response.
Bearing in mind that D-Link DIR-890L here cost 360,56 USD (2.608,94 Kn), if a company is a serious one it shouldn't matter if I contact them by phone or by email.

I already said that I'm worried about security because at the Croatian support page, "Security Patch Firmware" 1.11B01 (dated 11/09/16) is still missing. From the other side, I have to admit that all this time my D-Link DIR-890L functioned very ok using 1.09b14 and later 1.10 firmware (all default settings): 1 desktop PC (wired), 2 laptops (wireless) and 2 smartphones (wireless).
Circa 30 days I have a guest in my home with one Apple iPhone smartphone (wireless) and one Apple tablet iPad (wireless). Last 30 days I'm experiencing few times a day slowing/dropping of Internet connection - consequently, every time it happens I have to restart my D-Link DIR-890L.

Does this happen if you disable Guest Zone?

What is your ISP modem Mfr and model#
Cable or DSL?

Can you see if enabling Guest Zone for your guest to see if any behaviors change?

Is the ISP Modem fully bridged? Its recommended to use modems with built in routers in full bridge mode or if it can't be, use the modems DMZ for the DIR-890L routers WAN port IP address it gets from the modem/router.

Is this what the modem is set on? LAN IPv4 Address (Modem): 192.168.1.1

Is the 890L handling the PPPoE connection?

Let us know sometime next week.

All above infos are coppied from Sagemcom Fast 1704 settings - including LAN IPv4 address.
I don't know how can I check if 890L handles the PPPoE connection?

Look at the EMU page and you'll see My Internet Connection IS:
http://support.dlink.com/emulators/dir880l/101/Internet.html (http://support.dlink.com/emulators/dir880l/101/Internet.html)

If your modem is not bridged then the router is probably using DHCP. It's recommended to have the ISP modem bridged and let the router handle the PPPoE connection.

Without additional Apple iPhone smartphone and Apple tablet iPad, the situation is returned ok.
Curious to see what will happen, one day I have added (from my friends) 2 additional Samsung smartphones - everything was ok all day long too.
In conclusion, I can say only "boh?"... :)

In the meantime, the new beta firmware v1.11B02.BETA01 (security advisement) was released. Do you have any idea approximately when will beta become the official final release?

Today I changed my Internet provider, now I have 120 Mbit/s cable Internet: DIR-890L connected to Router Technicolor TC7200.20.
During this first hour everything ok, let's wait 7-8 days :)

By the way:

*
the admin page of "DIR-890L" and "Technicolor TC7200.20" is the same: 192.168.0.1
so I was able to access the DIR-890L admin page only via wifi at http://dlinkrouter.local and setup the new connection with the setup wizard;

*
regarding missing new firmwares at D-link Croatian support page, I tried today 20 times to call D-Link Adria (+385 1 61 89 142) but the line is always occupied.

Hi FurryNutz, thanks for your reply.
After few hours everything seems ok.
Without me doing anything, inside DIR-890L Settings/Network the LAN IP Address is now 192.168.100.1 and with wired connection I can access now the DIR-890L admin page without any problem.
I'm running Linux Ubuntu 17.04, here's my Speedtest.net by Ookla made with wireless connection:
PING 12 ms
DOWNLOAD 115.13 Mbps
UPLOAD 13.68 Mbps

~$ nmcli dev wifi
*  SSID                    MODE     CHAN         RATE           SIGNAL      BARS        SECURITY
   Blabla                  Infra          1        54 Mbit/s          87        ▂▄▆█        WPA1 WPA2
   Blabla                  Infra        52         54 Mbit/s         70         ▂▄▆_        WPA1 WPA2
*  Blabla                  Infra       100        54 Mbit/s         67         ▂▄▆_        WPA1 WPA2

What do you think?

There we go. Speeds look better.
Wired speed testing is always best to check. Looks like wireless is good to.

New gen routers will change the LAN IP address to 192.168.100.1 automatically if the WAN side gets a 192.168.0.1 IP address.

Hi FurryNutz,
regarding the missing new firmwares at D-link Croatian support page, today I called again D-Link Adria (+385 1 61 89 142) but the line is always occupied just like the last time.
My hardware is A1, today I installed the "DIR-890L_REVA_FIRMWARE_PATCH_v1.11B02.BETA01" from http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DIR-890L%2FR
Everything seems ok, here's a comparison of performance between the two firmwares (FW v1.11 measured few times):

FW v1.11: wifi quality measured by Wavemon:
(can you please tell me if within statistics, the RX drop 56 and TX retries 1,390 is ok?)

FW v1.11: my Android smartphone - connection 72 Mb/s (2.4 GHz)

I don't know specifically about this wavemon and how it works so not sure if it's picking up drops and retries is correct or what it's just seeing with just this one android device. You would have to test again another wireless device.

Glad v1.11 is working better for you. I and others feel the same.

I'll see if I can get some help on your regional D-Link office.
