Title: DSM-510 wireless connection problem
Post by: tinkertron on December 04, 2007, 06:23:01 PM
I have had this product for over a month now, and hooking the wireless up is getting me frustrated and confused. I have not problem with hooking it up via wire, but the main reason I purchased it cause of the wireless. I don't have the Intel Viiv technology so I have to bypass their hook-up and goto page 16 for the Express Setup. I do a scan for wireless connection and see my router listed, so I select my network and click OK. I enter the encryption type WEP and what the heck is a Cryptography key so I enter "aaaaaaaaaaaaaa" and I click OK. The DSM-510 restarts and then comes back on and tried to detech my connection, and starts all over with Express Setup. What am I doing wrong here?

Cryptography key would be you WEP key entered for your WEP encryption setup. Are you entering the correct encryption key this would be what you entered when setting up your SSID encryption information or what you enter when connecting a new wireless PC to your network wirelessly?

Yes it's WEP

What firmware version are you currently running? Also what is the brand and model # of the wireless router you are using?

Firmware on the router or the media player? I don't remeber the firmware number, but I do know I have the most update to date cause when I connected through the wire it updated to the most up to date firmware, i'm sure of that. My network router is an Actiontech MI424-WR

Have you tried multiple wireless encryption types on your router other than WEP? Have you tried connecting the DSM-510 to your router with no security? WEP HEX 64/128, WEP ASCII, WPA? Which are you using on your router and do any of those work between your router and the DSM-510?

I would recommend using the WPA.

OK i got it working without the WEP or WPA, I think I know what I was doing wrong, but also I would think that DLINK with better describe that the CRYPTION was cause it the SSID that was on my router that I should have been adding on the cryption key input on the media center.

If you encrypt you're wireless signal from your AP for protection, then didn't have to enter a key or password when connecting to the signal....it wouldn't be very protected now would it... :-\ ???

Page 21 in the manual does say a few things about encryption.

Sorry for the late reply, cause of the Christmas holiday. But in reference to the last posting, I'm almost 100% the manual I received with my producted didn't state what was on page 21, but I'll look again, and I also notice the link you refer me to and that there was an update manual that was published since 2/28/2007. Who's to say that I didn't get one before that date, anyways. I will review my manual and post back.
