Title: Transfer to NAS using USB OR Network
Post by: gilsonsjc on June 03, 2018, 03:16:29 PM
Greating from Brazil

I've just got a brand new DNS-320L. I have a USB 3.0 external HD disk with about 1 TB of data I want to drop in the NAS. My network is gigabit with cat6 cables. What is the best method as far as data transfer rate is concerned to do it: via network or connecting the external HD directly to the NAS and doing without going through the network? Does it have a USB copy tool or do I have to ssh to is and manually start the copy?

Thanks
Gilson

I would connect the external USB 3.0 drive to a PC that has USB 3.0 ports, and use Explorer to copy the files from the drive to the DNS.
Disable any PC security software temporarily while you copy as these tend to slow performance.
