When is the next official firmware release coming for 890 L/R?
« on: February 23, 2016, 05:18:23 AM »

I have to be honest:  I really like my D-Link 890 router, which is working pretty well but not perfectly by any means.  I switched to D-Link after 8 years of being with Netgear.  Why did I leave them?  Because their support and bug fixes became seldom, and probably after 18 months, they pretty much would stop supporting previous (old?) models and would only address the newer routers that they would release.

I bought my D-Link 890 in October 2015.  So its now becoming a concern of mine that the last official firmware release is from July 2015 and the current BETA firmware release (1.09 build 8) is from November 11, 2015.   So here is my question:  It's almost March 2016 and there has not been anything released.   I personally do not like to run BETA's.  I use the router for work and don't want to make my current issues possibly even worse.

This is not a rant against D-Link.  It is more of me making my concern public, and I am sure that this opinion is shared by other users in this forum.  I just don't want D-Link tech support / firmware developers to become "good enough".    Please, I ask you to address this issue and give us an official release sooner, rather than later.   Based on the release notes that are shown with the most current BETA, there are numerous & serious issues that are not working properly in the current official version.

Or is the idea now at D-Link is to worry only about the "new" 895 model and making sure that those owners are catered to, while the 890 owners can just deal with what is out there.

We don't have access to any release dates.

If your router is working well then I always recommend users follow, "If it works, don't fix it." Then there would be no need for you to update or be concerned about future updates. However it's recommended in some cases to update to BETAs as there are improvements.

I keep D-Link aware of issues seen as I also have this router and they are aware of issues at hand and are not going to let them fall thru the cracks.

Upgrade to the Beta an see how you like it. If you don't then you can always roll back.

It's not working completely well so I do need to fix it.   And it would be great if you communicate my email to the developers.   I know that sometimes people are not aware of what is going on, and the buck stops with someone in the middle.

I do not wish to use BETA based on what I have read from comments there.  I am just surprised that 3+ months have gone by without a new build, at least.

You are not directly being blamed for this but this has exactly the markings of what happened over at Netgear.   They had a "messenger" between developers and forum users.

Am I the only one unhappy about this?

D-Link is already aware of the issues at hand.

I would try the Beta. It's working well for me and has some nice new features.
If you have issues then please post about them, or if your not willing to let us help you or try the beta, then I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this.We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

BETA is working very well for me w/o an issues.  I actually think it's just as solid, if not better than the latest official firmware.  Looking forward to an "official" firmware update as well.  In the meantime, I'll continue enjoying the BETA firmware.   ;D

So if the BETA is working "fine", and it's from November 2015, and now it's officially March 2016 (4 months passed), how come D-Link doesn't want to make it OFFICIAL?   So either 1) they are still fixing things or 2) they are to busy with other things to make adjust the code and release it as a final.

Does that seem correct way of dealing with customers who paid nearly $290 for the product?   To me, it shows exactly what made me leave Netgear products.

Betas for for users who are wanting to help test and help D-Link with on going developments and improvements. D-Link is continually developing and fixing other issues they find as well. Also it takes time to work the code, work with other companies that maybe involved in the FW development and testing as well before releasing FW files.. it takes time for all of this to happen. The betas are just a stepping stone. You can use the beta or not. Up to you. Just saying, the beta is pretty good. You can always go back to what you had loaded if the beta doesn't satisfy you.
