DWA-192 crashing on 5Ghz network (SOLVED)
« on: January 12, 2016, 12:55:38 PM »

Hi!
I'm having an issue with the DWA-192 AC1900 adapter. I followed the instructions and installed the newest driver that I grabbed on the website.
As soon as I connected to a 5Ghz network, the WiFi disappeared from my computer.
I went into Device Manager and found the device. The status was that it couldn't start. Code 10. I tried rebooting, which didn't work. Then, I tried to uninstall the driver and installing it again, but this time I connected to a 2,4Ghz network and it worked fine, but as soon as I tried to connect to the 5Ghz network again, the device turned off and I was back to square one.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro and my router is an Asus RT-AC68U

Best regards, Andreas

What region are you located?

What wireless modes are you using on the main host router?
For a quick test, disable WPA on the main host router temporarily and see if the 192 connects with out crashing. Re-enabled WPA after testing.

I'm living in Norway.
My router is running a dual band with a 802.11n 2.4Ghz band and a 802.11ac/n 5Ghz band.
I tried to deactivate the WPA security but the card crashed either way.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. Please reference this thread. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

I will hijack this thread since I do have a similar issue and I run into this issue ever since the creators update (Build 1703) earlier this year.

So, what is happening exactly?

I boot up my PC, DWA192 tries to connect to my router (Fritz.box 7490), after successful connection the DWA192 crashes and I have to replug it (it completely disappears from the hardware manager, so I can't even uninstall the driver there or do anything). After replugging, it works perfectly fine, except in very rare occassions where I have to replug it twice before it starts working again. When it crashes the blue light is glowing like it has a stable connection to my router. When I try to run the windows problem solver thingy it tells my that I have no internet cable connected to my network card.

This was never an issue before the creators update and I even did a clean install of Win 10 1703 but this didn't help either.

In some very rare cases it works after a fresh boot and it mostly works after a normal reboot (feels like a 50:50 chance there). I even tested the DWA192 on a different machine where I ran into the same issues. The only way to "fix" this is setting the wireless mode to n/g/b, so the DWA192 only uses 2.4GHz WLAN, but this isn't exactly what I bought that ball for.

After googling a little, I found out that a lot of people had issues with their WIFI since they updated windows 10 to 1703, but I couldn't find working solutions for my problem, so I really hope I can find some help here, since this has been really annoying for the past few month.

And I am on the newest drivers DWA-192_A1_DRIVERS_v1.05B03_WIN.

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

What happens if you temporarily disable security on the Fritzbox router and see if the adapter remains connected? Try either 2.4 or 5Ghz as see.
Is the USB port on your PCs full USB 3.0 compliant or USB 2.0? The adapter needs 3.0 ports.

I kind of saw a similar issue with mine. Also saw a performance issue. You can review some of what we discussed here:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=66011.0
I did some of the windows modification changes and did see an improvement. I apologize for the missing pictures. I need to gather them from the old server and put them up on a new on.

I've tested almost all my USB3.0 ports on my z97 Mainboard, fun thing happened: first boot on a new USB 3 slot works, then after that it keeps crashing.

I havn't tested turning off security stuff yet, because I can't do that right now (wife is watching netflix, she'd go mad if I fiddle around with wireless lan now), so I'll try that tomorrow, but why would that be an issue now if everything worked flawlessly before the big windows 10 update?

I read through the thread you linked and I have no issues with the performance of the DWA192, the performance is sublime, It's just the crashing when connecting to 5GHz.

I'll post again tomorrow evening, after I've tested with disabled WPA2/security stuff.

Ankvi - What is the exact version of Windows 10 are you using? Creators update?

Fluff - I was going to ask if it was working before the update. Something must have broken the drivers. I will message D-Link support to look into it.

I'll put mine online and start testing.  ;)

Windows 10x64 Ultimate and DIR-890L AP mode with SC enabled:

So I started a new test on speedtest.net and got similar results. To be sure I started a 2nd test and as the down was testing, The speed dropped to around 50Mb. I tried to reload the page however couldn't. I looked at the wifi status icon and it was showing a disconnection. I looked at the 192 and it was now blinking. I attempted to reconnect to the 890L SSID name and after a few seconds the wireless connection disappeared. I looked at the available network adapters and the DWA-192 disappeared from this window leaving my two NICs listed.

Rebooting the PC brought the 192 back in the adapters window. It's not reconnected and i'll leave it for now.

I just finished testing with security disabled, it didn't change anything and after reading your last post, you seem to have the same problem, FurryNutz.

I guess the creators update messed with the drivers, like GreenBay42 has said. Hope there will be a fix soon and I hope the Fall Creators Update won't make things worse. Thanks for the help so far!

I presume there maybe some driver problems. I left my adapter running after bringing it back online after it disappeared. However I didn't run any other speeds tests thru it and it's been online since yesterday evening. Possibly some thruput speed instability issues as well. The adapter works great in Windows 7 and OSX for me. I presume Windows 10 needs some help.  ???

Mine has been online since posting yesterday. I haven't had time to re-try the steps in the speed test to see if the same thing happens. I'll try again tomorrow.

Yeah, wait. This wasn't my problem. My Adapters crashes after I boot my PC and that happens almost all the time, it doesn't happen as often if I do a reboot, but it's almost guaranteed to crash after a fresh boot and only if the Adapter wants to connect to 5GHz.

I then have to replug the thing and only then it works. It works without issues, I have no crashes and the performance is stellar as long as the PC runs, even for 40 hours, there are no disconnects atfer replugging it. The disconnect/crash happens only after boot OR in some very rare cases after I lose my wireless lan connection (restarting router) and it has to connect to 5GHz again. Then there is a chance of it crashing, but this happens rarely. It doesn't happen as often when I just reboot my PC (like I said before that's a 50:50 chance of it happening)

I have checked the event log, though I don't know how much help this is going to be since it's in german

Those warnings and errors pop up after each time/boot it crashes.

My exact Windows build is
Windows 10 Home 64bit Creator v1703 Build 15063.54

but like I said, this has been an issue ever since the Creators Update. It never happend before the update and I was using the Adapter for half a year before that.
