DIR.860L Router Date and Time Loss
« on: October 03, 2017, 01:03:53 PM »

Hello.

Please I need assistance.

I have noticed that the router date and time changes constantly since September 1st, causing that the internet connection drops.

I set the date and time correctly using Dlink NTP with my GTM zone, sync, and date and time are restored, restarts the router, date and time are right just last just for half hour, when both are set back to GTM -6 Central Time US and Canada, always.

Tried setting time are date manually and sync with computer date and time, but date and time are lost half hour later.

Internet works for that half hour, then drops at the same moment the router date and time are lost.

Also noticed that when I connect pc to internet through wifi with dlink router dir-860L and view connection status, it shows that the "lease obtained" date and time are: oct, 3 2017, 15:20 and "lease expires" date and time are: nov 9 2153, 03:30. It lasts for 100 years!

When PC is connected through wire to my dlink router’s lan port, the "lease obtained" date and time are: oct, 3 2017, 15:20 and "lease expires" date and time are: oct 4 2017, 03:30 and internet works fine.
The Dlink router GTM Date and Time are right and stay right.

When pc connects directly to ISP modem through wired lan, the "lease obtained" date and time are: oct, 3 2017, 15:20 and "lease expires" date and time are: oct 4 2017, 03:30 Lease expires 24 hours after lease obtained, and internet works fine.
The Dlink router GTM Date and Time are right and stay right.

ISP modem is set in bridge mode. According to ISP they have not done any update or change to the cable modem.

DLink Router FW Rev. A 1.11., was updated on march 8 2017, worked great until the problem started on September 1, when router lost date and time configuration and lease obtained and expired dates and times got 100 years mismatched. Restoring router factory settings, reinstalling firmware, did not work.

Is there any relation between the date and time loss and the lease obtained and lease expire dates and times discrepancy?

How may this be solved?

Thank you very much.

Where did you get v1.11? I only see v1.10 being available for the 860L.

What browser are you using to configure the router?
What Mfr and model is the ISP modem?

What happens if you disable NTP services and manually set the time from PC?
What time zone are you in?

Thanks FurryNutz for the prompt answer.

http://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/Router/DIR-860L/Firmware/

What browser are you using to configure the router?
Tried with Internet Explorer and Chrome, both fail.

What Mfr and model is the ISP modem?
Arris TG1662G

What happens if you disable NTP services and manually set the time from PC?
The router itself, without my intervention, enables NTP services and set to GTM -6 Central Time US and Canada, half hour after i set date and time manually.

What time zone are you in?
GTM -4

fw 1.10 didnt solved the issue.
Maybe there is an error within dlink ntp servers.

Go to Tools > Time and set your time zone. Click save settings. After reboot go back to that page and select the NTP server, save settings.

Does it change exactly after 1/2 hour?

I don't remember if that router lets you manually enter a NTP server. If it does try a public NTP server (google's - 216.239.35.4).

Did it, but the router without my intervention, enables NTP services and sets to GTM -6 Central Time US and Canada, half hour after i set date and time manually.

Yes, exactly half hour later GMT settings  go back to -6 Central Time US and Canada

DIR-860 does not allow to manually enter a NTP server.
Just has 2 options: ntp1.dlink.com and ntp.dlink.com.tw, i have used both to set time and date, and both set time and date correctly at first, but half hour later they go to GMT -6 Central Time US and Canada.
Even when i unckeck the box: "Automatically synchronize with D-Link's Internet time server", and i set time and date manually, half hour later, the box appears ckecked and time and date are set to -6 GMT.

Maybe GMT-6 Central Time US and Canada is a pre-set time/date, that is overuling my GMT zone settings.

That is a strange issue. I haven't seen that on this router. Sounds like an issue with the hardware since you have changed firmware and the problem exists.

I am not sure if something with your modem could cause that but being in bridge mode it should pass the NTP requests without issues or blocking it.

Are all other functions of the router working?

Only other idea would be to test the router with a different modem or in a different location that doesn't have this Mfr modem. Seen odd things with Arris Touchstone modems.  ::)

A tech tested this with 1.10 and it works fine. Sounds like the non-volatile memory may be defective on your router.

Do NOT use the Russian firmware 1.11 (unless you bought the router from Russia).

The user might wan't to reload FW v1.10 using this process and maybe help clear out any low level problems:
Emergency Recovery Mode

I have exactly same problem. I was running fmw version 1.04 without issues. Then this week I encountered this issue too. Time keeps reset no matter which change I do and internet stops working until I reset the router. So I tried to upgrade router to fmw 1.10 but it is still the same. Only thing which is slightly different is that time is not reset every half an hour. Sometimes it is even less, sometimes about hour.

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

Are you using the NTP services or manual time? Does manual time setting exhibit any behaviors?

Thank you very much GreenBay42 and FurryNutz.

Discovered that 4 LAN Ports from Arris cable modem that is bridge mode set, give the same public IP address to 4 different devices with different MAC addresses.

Talked to ISP, they reset Arris, restarted, but the same public IP address again is provided to all LAN ports. Tomorrow they will change the cable modem, then i will try to connect with the DLink router.

The reason i updated to fw 1.11 rev. A, was that internet connection was dropping very often, and after updating to 1.11 worked great for several month and time and date also stay as i set them, until now. I hope the new cable modem solves the problem. Will let you know.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully the new modem will resolve the issue.

The 1.11 firmware is not in the global database so it was probably a regional fix, but if it worked for you.....   I will check the release notes and see if worth sending to router group for US release.
