DIR-615 Rev E3 Suddenly Losses Internet Connection
« on: December 26, 2011, 10:37:00 AM »

I have a D-Link DIR-615 Hardware Version: E3 Firmware Version: 5.10 and I am using this as an access point with the DHCP disabled (secondary router) and my primary router is located down stairs and it is also a DIR-615 Hardware Version: B2 (192.168.0.1) and this issue didn’t develop until later over time and I have made absolutely no network configuration or ISP changes at all the internet has been working fine confirmed with Time Warner Cable and for more than six months and I out the DIR-615 Hardware Version: E3 Firmware Version: 5.10 router has been bringing down the entire network/internet access and I can confirm this router is causing the network/internet to go down and windows notification will say the network only has limited access and I am also unable to access the router page (192.168.0.2) state I have to remove it and restart it it’s so annoying is there anyway D-Link can take a look into this issue I believe this might be a bug and I confirmed on the website that this is the latest version.

Have you turn off ALL options on the 615 AP like SPI, QoS and any filtering?
Make sure your using the LAN port in back of the 615 and not the WAN port for connecting it to the host router?

Try setting the wireless mode from Mixed ALL to single mode G?
Theres a sticky over on the DGL-4500 forum for turning a router in to an AP.

Yes I have always had the ethernet cable plugged into port one and I have really never had issues with this router and for the settings and features everything is pretty much set to default besides turning dhcp off, and ssid name is slightly different and why should I turn off N mode when the router is 802.11n device? It works fine for like one week and then just randomly it losses the internet connection (limited access)

If you don't have any N supported devices then I would use Single mode G, If you do have N supported devices, try single mode N.

It's possible other wifi in the area could be effecting and interfering with the wireless. You can have the same SSID as the host router, you just need to make sure the channels are set manually to different, host put at 1, AP out at 6 or 11.

I that set on the Host router or the AP? If the AP router, then set it to manual and set for a channel anything other than what the Host router is using.

I checked out the DIR-515 emulator and saw under wireless setup>wireless network settings and it has an option for access point and thought that was pretty cool and was wondering if they could add that option to the latest version of DIR-615 Rev E3 in the future through a firmware update and what are the differences between the DIR-615 vs 515 besides it sells for only $20 on NewEgg right now? I wish D-Link would also include or add a wireless guest mode/option like all Linksys and NetGear it's pretty neat and is such a standard feature so you don't give complete access to your entire network and sensitive system files/data If not intended to do when you have friends and guest over.

Probably wont happen as this router is specifically designed for it's use and market area. They only make changes to FW if there is a major problem found or a security hole.

Anyways just a suggestion would like to see the DIR-615 Rev E3 and future to have an access point mode and te DIR-515 is cheaper/step below model just look at the model number and D-Link was nice enough to add/enable QoS engine to Rev B with F/W 2.25 and above so in my opinion adding a access point mode should be considered to be included and sound very simple an inexpensive to add.

So the acess point decided to act up and I determined below after I logged into the router status page for the DIR-615 Rev E3 it status shows disconnected and about of 0.0.0.0 and after I rebooted the router (about twice a week) then everything works fine how annoying:

Connection Type :   DHCP Client
Cable Status :   Disconnected
Network Status :   Disconnected
Connection Up Time :   N/A

IP Address :   0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask :   0.0.0.0
Default Gateway :   0.0.0.0
Primary DNS Server :   0.0.0.0
Secondary DNS Server :   0.0.0.0
Advanced DNS :
