bad performance 1.21NA FW
« on: January 02, 2010, 07:26:02 AM »

I upgraded to 1.21NA firmware on my dir-855. I have some bad performance with my DWA-140 usb adapter.
Spotify is laging etc...
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 on my htpc. I did not have this problem before fw upgrade.

Now I can't downgrade fw to EU fw. My d-link has revision A2.
Is there any settings I can check?
Can I restore default fw?

The answer is plastered all over the forum.  You can NOT downgrade from the 1.21.  I made the mistake of upgrading hoping it would resolve some minor issues I was having with the 1.12 but it just make things a hell of a lot worse.

All right, I have ok performance when I moved the router so I don't have obstacles.
Is there any upcoming fw?
What to do now? Tweak settings or something...

No clue!  A silence seems to have fallen upon this place.  Tweaking things didn't change anything for me.  I went from no wireless errors to thousands over a few days.  All I have to say is I'm not happy.

There are currently 3 flavors of 1.21NA firmware - one official release and two beta releases. Which one did you download ? Navigate to Status --> Device Info and under the General heading exam the Date code of the firmware and let us know what it is.

The firmware version listed in the router doesn't list officially what it is.

Firmware Version : 1.21NA,  2009/11/05

That's what it lists but it is actually the 1.21NA Beta 07.

You are using the latest NA firmware.

When you overlaid EU firmware with NA firmware you have unknowingly adopted the North American Wi-Fi channelization plan. The Wi-Fi Alliance and the IEEE organizations divide the 2.4 GHz band into 14 channels.
Here in the U.S. we can use channels 1 through 11 while most of Europe can use channels 1 through 13. Japan can use all 14 channels for 802.11b. In theory each country has the right to decide which channels to use AND how much power can be transmitted on those channels. In the beginning France used channels 10 through 13 and Spain used channels 10 and 11. Both countries now follow the broader EU standard.

So ... your router is using the NA standard but your D-Link DWA-140 network adapter is probably using the EU standard. While this ****eyed arrangement will actually work, I wonder if it's causing you some problems. I use several D-Link DWA-160 rev B network adapters on my PCs and when I examine the configuration information there is a property known as "Country Region (2.4 GHz)" which is assigned the value of " #0 (1-11)". There are other possible values such as " #1 (1-13)" which should be suitable for Europe. Since I have never seen the Ubuntu operating system, I don't have a clue about changing this property or if it even exits! (If it doesn't exist you might need a different driver for the adapter.) Good Luck...
