SP 4.0 on DIR-655 Rev A FW:1.35NA
« on: July 17, 2013, 08:48:38 PM »

Hi,

Been a long while since I messed with shareport on my 655 router.  I saw there was a new v4.11 (??) from another router, the DIR-835, so I thought I'd give it a try.

My basic issue has been that when trying to print qigh quality photos I get a little bit printed on a page (4x6) and then it spits it out and does the same to the next XX number of pages of photo paper (altho the paper source doesn't matter).

But alas, no joy....  Same issue with this new SP version.  Altho everything seems to work, it just won't print rightly.....

Never could nail down the exact issue, but I could describe it quite well.  I had worked some with one of the DLink guys that used to work this forum....but he must have gotten transferred when DLink decided they didn't want to actually fix something.  I know I am not the only person with this issue.

It seemed to be somewhat related to Windows 7 x64 versions.

it sends a premature page break repeatedly after printing only a small portion of the image.....

I spent a week testing out SP and various D-Link routers I have. The DIR-655 was also tested however I have a Rev B. All Printing and USB Drive operations are working however that was with SP v4.11 on Windows 7x64. I haven't had a chance to test SP v4.20 now.

What model printer do you have?
It would be good if you could send me this print file and let me see if it work on my printer here. I have HP LaserJet P2014n here.

I presume that if you directly connect your printer to a PC, avoiding the router connection and SP, that the file prints correctly?

Over all, not sure hot much longer SP is going to be developed on. Sure took them a while to get this most recent version released.

Hi,

Thanx for the reply FN...

My printer is a Canon Pixma iP4500.  It prints photos beautifully theu my little USB to LAN print server.
Only its one direction so no ink levels and such...common issue with USB LAN printers.  Thats why I liked my DIR-655 when it printed photos back a few years ago before all the firmware updates seemingly messed up shareport Photo printing..... I know I am not alone in this issue.

Thanks for any new input you can provide.....

Ok, ya seen various issues with SP and printers. Specially with Canon and Brother models.

Do you remember what FW version it worked on prior to updating? I know there was some versions of FW that worked better and some older SP versions what worked well too. I wonder if you regress back to some older version if that would work.

If not, you could always connect the printer to a PC or LT thats always left on if you need the Bi-Di communications for supplies.

Hi,

Seems to me the last FW that SharePort work well for me was either 1.21 or 1.12....I know that I couldn't get back to either one after moving up to the 1.3X series.

My 655 has been quite stable overall.  I have had it since early in their production of the A version.

The only real thing I would have hoped for, besides a stable Shareport, would have been support for WWRT (??) or Tomato (??)  firmwares....

The DIR-655 has a different chip set that I believe doesn't allow for 3rd party FWs to be developed.  :-\

Hi,

Yes, that is correct.  I remember reading
That the issue came down to licensing
Fees, and the chipset maker would not
back down regarding them; so the ddwrt
team told them to blow bubbles and thus
we users were left to deal with dlink's
Firmware schedule.
