.torrent files disappear

Is it normal for the actual .torrent file to disappear from the P2P/Torrent folder once its been saved there? The torrents all start downloading fine, but I am highly confused as to what happens to the initial file telling it what to download.
This happens whether I save the .torrent file to the folder directly, or save it to another folder and then copy it across.
This doesn't seem to happen in any other folder on my PC or on the NAS.
