Smartphone will not connect to DIR-836L Router
« on: June 12, 2016, 07:04:49 PM »

Hi,

Have had subject router running at home for about 4 years with no problems.   This week, I purchased an LG-L22C Power smartphone for my wife.   The phone is 2.4 Ghz and will not connect to my home network.   When I enter the network passphrase, the phone never shows 'obtaining IP address' and 'connected'; instead, it stops with a 'saved' message.  This morning, I connected to a DIR-655 router on my church's network with no problem, so I doubt the phone is the issue.   I will be attempting connections to other networks in the next 5 days, and will report on outcomes.

I have rebooted the router and phone, 'forgot' the phone's saved network id after I was out of router range, disabled the router 5Ghz band and unplugged a DAP-1525 wireless bridge temporarily, tried connecting using WPS and PIN, and have not overcome this issue.   I have downloaded the 1.04V11 beta firmware upgrade, but did not see any item even remotely connected to this issue, so not planning to use it unless you so advise.

Tuesday, I will print out the DIR-655 2.4Ghz wireless settings, and attempt to replicate then on the DIR-836L 2.4Ghz band settings.

Have others reported this anomaly, and if so, what was resolution?   If push comes to shove, might a reset to factory defaults be in the cards?   Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi,

Found issue-I had originally setup MAC filtering-as soon as I added smartphone MAC address to list, it connected.   Raises question, though.   Should I keep MAC filtering active-is it necessary?

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Mac Filter is good if you have users that are not obeying your house rules and abusing your system or you think you might have unauthorized devices on your network. However be aware that Mac Filtering can be circumvented by one changing the MAC address on there devices if they really want in. Game and cat and mouse then ensues.  ::)

Glad you figured it out.
