Corrutped files appear at random
« on: July 16, 2014, 01:45:16 AM »

From time to time I notice that some files or entire folders are filled with empty files. I mean - files with proper size, but their entire content are 0. I could speculate that this affects mostly old files.
Once per week full SMART scan is performed.
One option is curious - smart values. But i would suspect invalid files, not files filled with 0.

Current NAS Firmware Version - 2.02
HD = WD20EARS-00J2GB0
Smart results - http://pastebin.com/370XFDnU

Those symptoms usually point to a drive that is having problems either with its firmware and/or disk surface.

The best advice I can give is for you to:
Backup everything,
Download a copy of the WinDFT (assuming you use windows) and install it,
Switch off the NAS and pull the drive (not which slot it is in),
Fit the drive into a USB/SATA drive caddy,
Plug in the drive caddy (WinDFT should see it and allow it to be tested,
Run tests - if problems show up replace drive,
If no problems are reported reinstall drive into NAS,
Reformat drive in NAS and restore files and directory structure from backup.
