Internet LED light orange, but still have connection
« on: August 20, 2014, 12:02:53 AM »

Ever since I've had this router, the internet LED will turn solid orange.

According to the manual, this means that there is no internet connection.

Is this a known bug or is there a reason it would be turning orange? I've already checked for firmware updates.

If I reset the router, it will go back to blue, but it eventually goes orange again.

I've never lost LAN or WiFi internet connectivity when it is indicating that there is no internet connection.

Link>Welcome!

  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
FW Update Process
  • Was the router working before any firmware updates?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
  • Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

There is no bug regarding this. Maybe a indication of signal quality or connection coming from ISP Modem.

Firmware - I already checked for updates and it says it is up to date, version 1.01
I have never updated the firmware on this router.
Las Vegas, NV
As I said, both wired and wireless.

I own a Motorolla SB6121
I do not have poor or too high signal quality, I always check my signal
MTU is set correctly

Cox Cable, Dynamic
60 down 15 up
Cables are all fine and been changed... cat6 is not needed for several feet of cable and speeds that don't require cat6

I've already got all these bases covered. All I can think of is some sort of bug with the LED light...

Id factory reset and test again.

  • WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed

Cat6 cables are recommended for use. I've been using CAT6 for years now, short and long cables. No issues. I'd swap the cable between the router and modem. I don't use inbox cables as I've seen bad ones come in the box.

Factory reset, resend the same FW version or update to v1.02, Factory reset once more then set up from scratch.

Try this router at a friend or families place to see if the problem follows, then you'll know if it's a problem on the router or else where.

I have this same modem model and have never seen this issue.

I guess I will try a factory reset and see if the issue persists.

I know there's no issue with cat6, but I don't use speeds up to 10GB and I seriously doubt I'm getting any type of interference through my cat5e cable. I do have cat6 cable and could fabricate a line and test it as well, but I highly doubt it will make a difference.

Thank you for your suggestions.

If the reset doesn't work I'm just going to let it be. The light turns orange but again I don't have any connectivity issues or speed issue... just wondering why it is going orange.

How long have you had the router for?

Could be maybe something giving out inside the router HW wise. You might check the power adapter as well. Voltages should be 12v and 2A.

Let us know how reset goes and trying different cable if you can. If router is working then maybe it's ok for now. I am curious about it though.  ::)

I purchased the router and modem at the same time, they are about 1 year old.

I will swap the cable with a cat6 and also swap adapter. I should have some identical ones.

I just swapped the cable and AC adapter. So far it's fine but too early to tell.

So after swapping and re-cabling, is the Globe blue again?  ???

Good, so you like it might be the cable or power adapter?
