I have a DIR-850L wireless router with hardware Version A1 FW 1.13WW that worked fine with the exception of the range and thus I purchased 2x DAP-1650 configured as Access Point.  My house has wired Ethernet in every room and thus to get all the outlets switched we use 2x GO-SW-8G and one GO-SW-5G next to the router.  Everything seemed to work fine till we added some PoE cameras that required me to purchase a d-link DGS-1008P that was directly connected to the DIR-850L.  At first we had to continually reset the router, but now have turned off a bunch of stuff on the cameras to the point they now seem stable with the router.  The only open issue I have is that once a night my daughters will ask me to reboot the router in order to watch YouTube or Netflix or Snap Chat on her iphone 5S or old Toshiba laptop.  They can still iMessage and use other basic internet surfing features.  I thought it was a DNS issue so I have changed them to several different servers but it doesn't solve the problem.  Also of interest is that many times they can walk to the other AP and the apps seem to work and then stop working when they are back by the DIR-850L.  They have iPhone 5S without AC so they can pick the 5 or 2.4 Ghz signal on the N network.  So when they don't get internet I go in with my iPhone 6 that has AC and it works fine, even on YouTube.  Last thing I will mention is that the home network always works and they can log on the router to reboot it.  They also have an app called SpeedSmart that they use when it is down and they get full speed.  After checking they have Wi-Fi, Wan and LAN connections and changing the DNS on their iPhone I finally give up and reboot the router and then they are able to get full access to all their video apps.  So I am really stumped as to why they are having this problem.  Called D-Link and the guy basically said routers can get tired and rebooting every night seems to be a workable solution.

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have? Link> Speed Testing Sites

What happens is you disable the DAP and just use the 850L with out the cameras connected, does the iphone still exhibit problems?

Do you have the DAP and 850L wireless going at the same time?

I have the other 2 DAP in other locations of the house and they run at the same time with the 2.4Ghz on the same network name and the 5.1 on its own name.  They are all set to auto channel find.  So in theory you should be able to move about the house once you pick a network and the iphone will just jump to a different wireless device based on the stronger signal.

One thing that has changed since I posted is that both IPvv4 and IPv6 Multicast Streams was unchecked and now are checked.  Is there a chance this might solve my problem even though the cameras have a 32gb SD card and act as its own NVR?  We haven't had any problems now in 4 days and if we do I am going to unplug the 4 cameras from the PoE switch and see if the problem persist and then just disconnect the PoE switch after that to see what happens.

Still concerned that the DIR residential grade router doesn't know how to play well with the commercial grade PoE unmanaged switch.

DIR series routers do not support POE so if you have a switch that is POE, I would try to disable any POE features on the switch or remove this switch and change it out for a standard non POE switch.

If you have other WiFi APs running along with the DIR router, I would set them on different channels manually to ensure the signal doesn't drop or interfere. Channels can not be on the same channel on each AP. I would use 11 on the DIR, 6 and 1 on the other two APs. Same goes for 5Ghz if you have 5Ghz going on the other APs.

Multi cast streams should be enabled on the router.
