Title: Good Option ? Coming from DIR-625
Post by: coa132435 on August 12, 2012, 12:26:54 PM
Hi All,

I am new in the forum.  I am planning to upgrade my existing dying  DIR-625 router which had been running without problem for 6 + years. I am currently using it as a router only. I use a different brand for AP which has been very reliable and with enough power to get signal every place in my home.  I really like D-Link GUI and stability of the 625 .  My ISP today is TWC and  I have the 30/5 Mbps plan and planning to move to 50/5Mbps  soon.    I have not problems getting the 30/5  anytime (Subdivision is small)  regardless I am connected via wire or wireless.

So few questions:

1.- Will the existing "bug" 2 Mbps limit for the upload QoS be fixed? Or Is it a design intent and will never be "fixed"?
2.- Is the reported "problem"  with the "Oops/DNS/ Page not found fixed with  FW 1.02?
3.- Is the reported "problem" with the lost of WAN connection fixed ?

I mainly use the internet connection to work from home (VPN) and second is gaming.

Any help/recommendation will be appreciated.

Not sure when or if this will be fixed. Been some debate if QoS needs to be used on anything 2Mb or faster on the Uplink.
2.- Is the reported "problem"  with the "Oops/DNS/ Page not found fixed with  FW 1.02? This problem was only seen on some users units. The Opps page is a function of the router and will display if a bad URL address is seen. Someone did day it was fixed for them.
3.- Is the reported "problem" with the lost of WAN connection fixed ? Haven't seen any problems like this on mine.

I mainly use the internet connection to work from home (VPN) and second is gaming.

Any help/recommendation will be appreciated.
The 857 is a vary good router. Has a lot of features. Do you need 5Ghz WiFi, IPv6, media streaming services? These are good features however if your not using them actively then you might be wasting services this router provides. I would recommend it for 5ghz as 2.4Ghz is getting more and more crowded and 5Ghz can help in some cases where 2.4Ghz is congested. Over all, review your networking needs. If your using a different AP for you wireless needs then maybe I would keep what you have going if it's working well for you.
