Hi Folks,
I recently upgraded from a LinkSys WRT54G router to the D-Link DIR-655 for the gigabit and 802.11n capacity. The older LinkSys router had been setup by the Comcast tech at my house when I moved from AT&T DSL to Comcast Cable with telephony (Arris TM502G Cable Modem). I printed out all of the settings from the old LinkSys router just in case. I tried at first to let the system set itself up as indicated in the Quick Start CD-ROM and the manual, but I had no Internet connection. I had to use the Primary DNS and Secondary DNS server information again. I also had to use the MAC Address that was in my old router which is not the hardware IP address of my PC nor does it match any of the MAC addresses printed on the bottom of the DSL modem. Everything does work fine, but it seems quite slow compared to the LinkSys and I feel it's just not setup right based on what I've read at the Comcast site. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong here? Do I really need to use these DNS servers and MAC address or can't this be automatically setup by the router? Of note I do have an ADT security system that uses the telephony to access ADT. Thnaks in advance for any and all help provided.
Roger
