Android Tablet Intermitent connection problems
« on: March 20, 2012, 12:39:15 PM »

I am new to this forum hoping I might find a solution.

My Android Tablet ASUS TF101 fails to wirelessly connect at the next reboot after it has been sleeping.
Unpluging the DIR615 and replugging solves the problem until next time. The Tablet shows a poor signal until the router reboots (even at 4 feet away).  The router firmware is 3.11NA and the hardware is C1.

Other hardware like an ACER WIN-7 PC can still wirelessly connect when this problem is exhibited.

Is an upgrade available that is likely to fix this problem.

What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI, WLAN Partition and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Latest FW:
Firmware   3.13NA   9/30/2010

Although I havnt made any changes yet the following are m y default settings

802.11 mode      ... mixed n,g,b
Access Channel    ...  2.437 GHz chan 6
Channel Width     ...   Auto 20/40
Security MOde     ...   WPA Personal
WPA Mode           ...   WPA Only
Cipher Type         ...   TKIP and AES
Key Update Interval    3600 sec

Not obvious that Short GI, WLAN Part., and Extra Wireless is an Option

Devices on Wireless are only ASUS ANDROID (ICS) TABLET and ACER WIN-7 based PC, but the problem exits with just the Tablet connected. True under Honeycomb and ICS.

Running Inssider on my laptop shows just the one WI-FI network

With this info ... does it suggest a more specific course of action ?

Thankyou

To inform you that adjusting Channel  Width  from 20/40    to 20 only seems to have solved the problem.

It might take a few more days to make  that an absolute confirmation.

Can you explain (or direct me to an explanation) of what channel width is and why it probably solved this issue.

Thanks for your help

Channel Width

Some cell phones don't support 40Mhz channel width. Check the the Mfr of the cell phone to see what it supports.
