Fast User Switch Disable Workaround
« on: September 20, 2009, 05:34:24 PM »

Ok, seems that you can actually install the drivers for the wireless NIC without installing the D-Link connection manager, which seems to be the reason for the Fast User Switching to be disabled.

Uninstall the connection manager and reboot, if you havent already.

Download the driver ZIP file from the D-Link site and unzip to your desktop.  DO NOT CLICK THE SETUP EXE!

Go to your Device manager and find the "NETWORK DEVICE" under "OTHER DEVICES".  It has a yellow exclamation mark cuz it needs the drivers (but you knew that already, right?)

Right click on the "NETWORK DEVICE" selection and select update driver.

On the dialog box check "INSTALL FROM A LIST OF SPECIFIC LOCATION", click NEXT.

Make sure the "INCLUDE THIS LOCATION IN THE SEARCH"  and click "BROWSE"

In browse, find the "dwa542_drivers_230b05 file you downloaded and unzipped.

Go all the way through the files till you find the "DRIVER" folder and choose your OS. Click OK.

It should automaticaly start installing the driver and TA-DA, you're done!  To connect to your wireless network just use the Windows connection manager.

I hope this helps everyone with this issue.

Feel free to contact me via email if you need more details or help.  :)
