Title: DCS-936L Fails
Post by: parched12 on February 09, 2018, 06:34:26 AM
I have used D-Link cameras over 10 years.
DCS-936L worst ever. Repeated setup issues, if a power loss occurs it resets to defaults and loses time setting.
Refuses to allow browsers Firefox, Chrome or I.E. 11 to access it.
I have 6 other cameras online ranging from DCS-932L to DCS-5030L, if the DCS-936L locks up which it does regularly it bring down all the other cameras.

Sounds like your 936L is defective. You shouldnt lose any settings if it loses power and you not being able to get to the UI with those IE or FF means something is bad.

Try reflashing the latest firmware and if it continues call tech support for possible RMA or return to point of purchase if possible.

Does the camera run hotter than normal?

Can you access the camera OK with the mydlink or mydlink Lite app?

I.T. Professional for 14 years.
All Firmware updates applied.
Using static I.P. as well.
Useless camera, had to unplug it to keep other 6 running.

Like I said it is prob defective since obviously that isnt the normal behavior for this model camera.

Also maybe something glitched during the last firmware upgrade so reflashing it may in a few cases fix things but if the behavior followed the camera regardless of firmware version then the camera is bad and return it or contact tech support for RMA.

My 936L doesn't behave this way. Working well for me and my other 2 cameras.
What Mfr and Model # router do you have?
Are all cameras connected to one router? How many other devices are connected to the router besides the cameras?

Please ask for an RMA.

Use IE11 x32 or FF ESR x32 version of there browser. Standard FF and Chrome now blocks various plug ins.

Just my opinion..... But, Scan setup and Bluetooth setup on latest models. Cumbersome to say the least. Just my opinion.

I have 16 D-Link cameras at work, 6 at home. This one really disappointed me.

Sorry, Linksys EA8500 at residence. Not business class router. My mistake.

I see.

What wireless modes are you using on the router? My camera seems to work best on N only, WPA2 and AES only. Manual channel 1 or 11 on 2.4Ghz.

I would disable any Beamforming or MIMO features on the router as well if there are any supported.

Give a FW install again on the camera using IE11 or FF ESR version of there browser. Factory reset after the FW install then setup from scratch. Have the cameras networkings set up for SSID and PW with the main host router.

Just so you know.... Found a secret certificate hidden on device pointing back to China. Spooked me. Deleted certificate.

Where did you find this certificate exactly?

I'm confused. What's the required browser for the DCS-936L? I can't get to the web UI with Chrome, Firefox or Edge but it will work with IE 11.  ???
Do I have to use IE for now on?

I too have multiple D-Link cameras...just bought this 936L last week.
I have spent over 4 hours over the past 4 days trying to get this camera to work, in particular the SD card playback feature.
I spent 40 minutes talking to tech yesterday with no resolution.
I bought a second micro memory card.
I was about to replace the new card I insterted yesterday,
but the camera was too hot to hold.
Clearly there is a serious issue with this camera.
This is my 5th D link camera.
Two which were recording versions, I bought 4 years ago...each lasted 18 months.

This camera is 1 week old...I"M VERY FRUSTRATED!!!!!
The design of the stand is useless as well...

What are you trying to do with the camera?

If the camera is hot (and NOT from sitting in a window sill with the sun beating on it), there is an issue with the power supply or camera.

What about the stand is useless?
