Poor wi-fi performance on DAP-1522 connected to DIR-855
« on: January 28, 2015, 02:09:50 PM »

Hello,
I have my DAP-1522 setup as AP (hard-wired) to my DIR-855. When I connect wirelessly to my DAP-1522 I get transfer speeds of 20 Mbit/s, when I connect to DIR-855 I get speeds around 80 Mbit/s. Both measured at close range and without any obstacles in between.

The DAP has the latest FW version (1.42). I disabled WPS and setup the DAP with static IP. I use 2.4 GHz Band on both router and AP. The DAP says it uses the 11n mode.

Does anyone know why I get so low wi-fi speed on my DAP-1522?

Hi again,
I thought I should inform you that I foundation a solution to my problem, in case anyone else has had experienced the issue.

Make sure to use WPA2 AES when enabling security or suffer poor throughput. Dont use WEP or WPA/TKIP mode.
For some reason, it looks like the security mode throughput optimization is not present in the 1522.

As soon as I changera to AES my speed kicked up to 90 Mbps up/down. Also I changed to 5 GHz mode, which added small improvement, but the main improvement was due to AES.

Found about the issue when Reading this article.

Thanks for posting and feed back. Glad you found the solution.
Yes WPA2 and AES have been know to have the best performances and is always recommended to use. WEP is less secure and has been compromised and is not recommended to use anymore. However some older generation devices still use it so it maybe needed for those users that have a need for it.
