Irregular Disconnections
« on: April 14, 2020, 10:49:57 AM »

I'm using this usb wifi orb for more than a year and I'm experiencing constant, yet irregular, internet disconnections. It doesn't matter whether I'm using it on the latest Windows 10 version or on Hackintosh Clover (newest version as of today) OS X Mojave and now Catalina (I'm using the Clover driver provided on this forum for my Catalina hackintosh). Sometimes the connection lasts 10 minutes, other times it lasts an hour so it's very unpredictable. Once I reconnect to the same Router at the same frequency, it starts working again, but I do have to manually reconnect it in the wireless dropdown menu on my Hackintosh.

This problem persists with any frequency (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz) and on multiple versions of Windows 10 and Mac OS X. It worked that way on El Capitan, Mojave and now Catalina. I contacted support and they gave me a completely new hardware unit, including new USB 3 cable, but the same problems are still there. I'm guessing it's a major Software flaw. Is this issue common and is it easily fixable?

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What driver version are you using?
Are you using a USB extension cable with the cable included in the box?

I'm using v1.08 currently for Windows on Windows 10x64.

Hello Mr. Nutz

Sorry for the late reply, but I had to do the cross-dressing mission in Final Fantasy VII Remake to get to Don Corneo's bedroom.

I'm from Switzerland and the router I'm using is an internet provider exclusive built by Arcadyan to their specifications. Here's a document of the router in question: https://fiber.salt.ch/sites/default/files/2019-08/Conformity-Certificate-_-Salt-Fiber-Box.pdf

I can't find the MFR on any document but so far, all my laptops, mobile phones, PS4 including this very computer I'm writing from, that has these problems when I use the DWA 192, work flawlessly in conjuction with the router. My Gigabyte Z390 Designare motherboard came with a built in WiFi card that works flawlessly with the router in question on Windows 10 64bit but I had to buy the DWA 192 in order to use it with the Mac portion of the computer, since the built in card by Intel is not working under Mac OS X with Clover.

My driver for Windows 10 64bit is 1.08B03 and the driver for Mac is Wireless USB Adapter Clover-V14 which I've downloaded from Github as a workaround solution for Mac OS X Catalina. As I mentioned before, over the last year, I've had the same problems with earlier firmware versions too.

I'm using the USB cable that came with the DWA 192 and I connect it diretly to a USB 3 port on my motherboard.

Do you need any other information regarding my setup?

I would take the 192 to a different location and see if the same thing happens if you use a different wifi router. Work, friend or families place. See if the problem follows.

I tried my DWA 192 on my laptop (Windows 10 64bit latest driver) and there the interreptions happened again. Just switching from 5GHz to 2.4GHz forces the 192 to reestablish a connection to the same router and then the internet connection works again. I'm 100% sure it's not a hardware failure of the 192 or my router. It has to be a software error. Is there a failure report that I could generate on Windows or Mac?

Look in the event logs in Windows or review the Console in Mac.

Can you try the adapter with a different router to see if the problem follows?

I don't know if it's a SW issue. I have mine loaded on Windows 10 and it's been working well. Even on prior versions of the driver.

Due to the Coronavirus lockdown, I'm not able to try it with a different router at this point in time. I just know that all laptops and PC with built in WiFi receivers have no problems with this router and the Intel WiFi card on this affected computer works well with it too. It's just the DWA 192 that has problems with retaining a constant internet connection. I used the console app on my Catalina Mac and these are some messages I got:

One thing to try is to turn off any power management features under the adapters driver advanced settings.

I suppose I can connect mine to Catalina and see what I find. I have 10.15 on my Mac Book and Mac Mini...the Adapter works great in 10.14 on my Mac Mini.

Not sure...since current stock drivers don't support 10.15, not sure if they will install at all. I'm going to try and see. Possible we might be able to manually install them. Do you know where the files are actually are on the HDD folder by chance?

Since I'm using a hackintosh, it's installed inside my EFI folder which is basically a folder designed for the Clover bootloader so that it can load all the essential kext files like fakesmc.kext etc. On a normal Mac, it's most definitely somewhere else...

Ok, so I tried lasted Mac driver in 10.15. IT's not compatible. So I thought I would extract the contents from the installer pkg file. I used Pacifist to open the contents. Nice little program has a installer function to install contents of pkg files. It found 3 folders, 108Utility, 1014Utility and 109Driver. Pacifist installed the 1st two item however it said it could not install the 109Driver RtWLanDisk, RtWlanU, RtLlanU1827.kext files.  :(

I presume something with 10.15 and compatibility of the .kext files needs to be addressed.

I'll see if D-Link is going to update the 192 drivers for full support on 10.15. Would be nice.  ::) They just added WPA3 support to the new Mac Driver.  ;D

So what should I do now? How long do I have to wait until there is an updated Catalina driver? Catalina has been out for half a year already...

In the meantime, we can further explore the interreputions on my Windows 10 system. I just did the latest OS update and the driver is the newest available from your site, yet it still leads to intermittens interruptions. Is there anything that I could provide to document this error further?

I would make contact with D-Link support and open a support case with them.
With all that's going on with the world events right now, we will see delays in developments.

Does the Adapter work with other wifi routers if you can test?
What modes do you have set on the your host wifi router?
Try single mode N or AC on 5Ghz.
Disable 5Ghz temporarily on the host router and connect the 192 to 2.4Ghz only and see if the adapter still has problems keeping connected as a test.
Set 40Mhz channel width only on the host router.
