Title: DNS-321/323 - Alternative Firmware - Alt-F
Post by: JavaLawyer on March 18, 2014, 05:30:02 AM
This FAQ entry describes an available open source third party firmware available for the D-Link DNS-321 and DNS-323. The firmware described in this FAQ is not sanctioned by D-Link and installing this firmware may void your D-Link ShareCenter warranty (Please see Disclaimer at the bottom of this post.)

What is Alt-F?

Alt-F is an open source replacement firmware specifically for the D-Link DNS-321 and DNS-323 which can either run from a USB thumb drive (temporary) or replace the ShareCenter on-board firmware.

Some of the key benefits claimed by the developers of Alt-F include: Samba, NFS, EXT2/3/4 support, RAID-5 (using external USB HDD), larger HDD capacity, RSYNC, FTP, SFTP, SSH, additional fan control, FFP packages, and web admin GUI.

Alt-F should not be confused with Fonz Fun_Plug (FFP) (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=58479.0), which is comprised of a master script and set of companion utilities that operate in concert with the stock ShareCenter firmware. While Alt-F supports FFP packages, FFP is a completely separate third-party software product and should not be confused with Alt-F.
