Router reboots by itself, Loss of internett
« on: May 22, 2013, 12:17:00 PM »

Hello.

I have a DIR-601 that I bought last week. HW: B1, FW: 2.00.

Tried updating the Firmware, but it gave me an error and would not update. Also tried resetting it before updating it, but got the same error. "firmware update Fail", "Connection Error".

The Problem I have with this, is that I suddenly loose internet and either have to wait a minute or two or unplug the routers power adapter to get internet back. Kind of annoying.

I have it set up with Static IP and enabled Access Point mode.

I am from Norway

Link>Welcome!

I'm not showing that the DIR-601 or any FW is available for your region. Did you get this from a local store or a on-line e-tailer?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
 - My ISP is Fiber, 25/25. They supply their own router that we use for DHCP and such. I only use this as a Wireless Switch.

What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
 - The router is delivered by the ISP (Altibox) its screwed to the wall and doesnt have any visible name or model#.

Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
 - N/A (Fiber)
For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
 - no such options that I can set on the router delivered by the ISP.

Bought the router at a local Electronics store, bought the HW:A1 first, but that one had this problem more frequent, then replaced it with HW:B1, and now it happens atleast once a day. They had a few of the B1 models still left.

Will test settings below. although alot seems to be greyed out and I have to disable Access Point mode to get them "un-greyed".

Also, as noted earlier, it is in Access point mode, so DHCP Recervations is N/A, and so should DNS and firewall be. (?)

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?

Try this for the 601:
Turning a router into an AP.
