DAP-1360 as AP seems to drop DHCP packets
« on: November 14, 2012, 03:03:06 AM »

Hi,

Currently have a DAP-1360 configured with a guest wifi access so it is open.
I have on the AP LAN a DHCP server, but wifi clients are unable to connect to the AP because they don't get any IP address.
Had a look on the DHCP server and sniffed traffic on it, I can see the DHCP DISCOVER and DHCP OFFER to the client, but it never arrives to it.
The only thing between the client and the DHCP server is the AP, no firewall, nothing else.

I updated the firmware (2.13 if I recall correctly) but it didn't changed anything.
Moreover, since this upgrade, instead of the DHCP server integrated to the IP, I have IPV6 settings and no more DHCP server configuration capabilities!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Regards.

What mode is the 1360 running in? AP meaning lan wired to this DHCP server? Or using wireless bridge mode?
If AP mode, try setting a static IP address on the 1360, usually 192.168.0.50 is the default address for DAPs. Is there a gateway and subnet mask addresses as well for the 1360? Those should be manually filled in or be automatically filling in from the DHCP server.

Does the set up look like this? ISP Internet>DHCP Server>DAP-1360<>clients connecting to the 1360?

1360 is in AP mode.
It is wired to the same switch as the DHCP server.
1360 has a static IP with everything needed.
When client connects to 1360 with static IP defined, it is able to go out everywhere.
The only issue is that it seems that there is no dhcp relay mechanism.

The setup looks like this:

ISP Internet > Firewall > DHCP Server > DAP-1360 <> Wifi Clients

Usually for AP mode, the DAP needs to have a predefined Static IP address, usually 192.168.0.50. If that is set, then the 1360 should pass along any and all traffic coming and going from the DHCP server and beyond. Any DHCP requests should be passed to and from the 1360 and the actual DHCP server. The 1360 doesn't have a DHCP server as it mainly relies on either using the factory defined static IP address for management or when connecting Bridge mode or Relay mode, should connect and acquire networking addressing from the main host WiFi router broadcast. In any of these cases, the 1360 should pass along any and all DHCP requests and traffic to the requesting client device if set up correctly.

I presume that since you said the 1360 has a static IP address assigned on the unit and the clients are getting connections, then you have the unit set up correctly?

The 1360 has a static IP since I got it out of the box, I never set up any network device with DHCP adress except endpoints.
Clients are not able to get any IP address from DHCP server and when sniffing traffic from DHCP server I can see DHCP offers going out of it.

Clients are able to connect only if I set up Static IP on clients, AP always have a static IP, but DHCP offers are not relayed...

Is this dhcp server a pc or Hw based?
Does the 1360 behave the same way if connected to say a DIR series host router?
