Blinking red and green status LED
« on: December 31, 2015, 02:32:44 PM »

To preface, getting this camera setup has been an enormous pain. The mydlink app consistently fails both android and iOS devices. But I digress...

After I managed to (I think?) bind the camera to my mydlink account, I was informed it needed a firmware update. I gave it the go ahead and waited. A few minutes later the status LED on the back of the camera began blinking red then green, this was followed by my phone saying that the firmware update had failed.

The camera is no longer connected to my router and is now broadcasting the SSID rescueCam-XXXX. I can connect to the network, but it's unclear how to proceed from here; I've tried to connect to 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 via browser and ssh to no avail.

I assume the camera isn't bricked and that there's some means of rescuing which, sadly, is not documented in the manual. Any advice?

Yeah go into windows networking and see what the ip address is that you are connected to.

Not sure which windows you are using, but it takes some poking around at any rate.

Use that ip address to connect.

Thanks for the advice, I managed to recover the camera. The gateway address was 192.168.1.30. Connecting to the camera's rescue network and accessing that address in my browser gave me the option to upload a new firmware image. I was a bit stymied as dlink.com doesn't have a firmware image, however it turned out that mydlink.com did. After uploading the new image and waiting a few minutes, things returned to normal.

Most FW can be found on mydlink.com over dlink.com. the MDL site is kept more up to date for cameras.

I'm experiencing the exact same issue you had posted on this thread.  I was also trying to update firmware.  I read through the posts but didn't see how you were able to connect to your camera.  Can you give some detail?  I have the new firmware file downloaded to my pc, but need to get into my camera's admin to set it up.  I also tried to reset the camera to factory and that didn't work either.  Any help is appreciated!

Is the camera wireless connected to the main host router? If so then you should be able to see the IP address of the camera by looking at the main host routers DHCP client connected table to see the IP address for the camera there. Use that IP address in a web browser to connect to the cameras web page.

Hi. Running a DCS960L wifi ONLY cam. Firmware update failed. Light flashing red/green. Cam emitting a 'rescuecamxxx' wifi signal.

HAVE THE NEWEST FIRMWARE FOR YOUR CAM DOWNLOADED TO YOUR COMPUTER AND EXTRACTED SO YOU CAN SEE THE .bin file.

1. Connect to the wifi network created by the cam.
2. Click on the details of the wifi connection in your windows network to see not the ip address of the rescuecam but the GATEWAY.
3. Open an IE browser and type the gateway address ie 192.168.1.30 into the url bar and press enter.
4. You will see a simple line asking for the location of a downloaded firmware file. You'll point to the downloaded firmware file and follow the instructions from there.

Good luck.

Is this the process you experienced with your camera?

Hi. Not sure if this is directed to me. If it is, yes, I've had to do this basically everytime I try a wifi based firmware update. I keep forgetting and then the update invariably fails, cam stops working,  and I'll swear I'm never buying anything dlink then a week later ill say let me take another look and figure it all out again. Now that I've posted the solution I'm hoping it'll make it easier for ME next time. :)

If you see this again, I recommend sending the unit to D-Link and asking for an RMA.

I've never seen this with my 960L since I got it last month and I've changed routers and APs around here and there an I've never had to reset up the camera or encountered this issue. I presume that the unit maybe faulty and needs to be replaced. I would do this sooner rather then later.

Very good advice. Thanks. Camera works great though. Love it. I can live with doing firmware updates from a downloaded file. Good day.

Same here. I like the video quality. You can always manually do FW updates when needed. My preferred method to update anything.  ;)

Enjoy.
