Upgraded to 2.07NA Firmware and it bricked my router!
« on: June 21, 2012, 06:46:50 PM »

So here I am today playing with the settings in my DIR-655 NA B1 router when I notice that a firmware upgrade is available. I clicked the button and the router automatically downloaded the file named DIR655B1_FW207NAB09.bin. I flashed it and was saying that it needed to wait 180 seconds (3 minutes) to reprogram the router after which it came up with a 404 not found on the screen. I am not able to access my router, it is bricked and I can't even reflash the firmware comes back with Incorrect hardware ID image, Please check. I notice that the 2.07NA firmware file on the website is named DIR655B1_FW207NAB05.bin. What gives this is the first time a firmware upgrade has bricked anything I own?

Can try this:
Emergency Recovery Mode
Be wired to the router, not wireless.

I would load v2.03 unless you don't use Shareport with v2.07.

If you can't this this mode to work then you'll need to contact DLink for RMA.

Totally bricked, tried everything...had to RMA the unit. On another note couldn't get out of the Dlink rep why the router would download a 2.07NAB09.bin but the website only had 2.07NAB05.bin. Its killing me why the router would download a higher build number than what's available on the website?

Sounds like mine, I'm in the same boat and it really sucks.  Download was from the Canadian site and did the same thing.  Said it was taking 3 minutes to reprogram the router, then comes back to the 404 error.  going directly to 192.168.0.1 after manually assigning an IP to my PC got me to the "Firmware Upgrade System" but it is not taking anything.

Can you recall what FW you were running prior to upgrading to 2.07?

Was running 2.03NA. TIL when I got my router back from RMA that if there is a firmware upgrade to ONLY download it from the website and not let the router do it!

Don't be, I've gone back and forth on my B1 a couple of times using the FW update sticky process. Glad you got it back and it's working. Keep 2.03 for now. I haven't heard anything else about v2.07 and beta 2.08. 2.08 fixed what 2.07 broke however introduces another problem so I'm waiting to see if there are any other betas coming. v2.03 will work well for everyone.

Enjoy.

What exactly is Sharepoint? I just got my DIR-655 Rev B. I tend to upgrade firmware on everything I get as soon as I get it. So I'm running 2.07NA now. I'm not having any issues with it but I keep seeing the posts saying not to use 2.07NA

Shareport is a USB sharing program that when you have a USB devices, say a external drive or printer connected to the back of the router, Shareport allows access to this connected device via this application that is required on each PC to connect to the USB port.

It's recommended to try these routers out of the box before upgrading. These routers work well out of the box and with what they come loaded with initially. Only recommend updating FW if your seeing issues that maybe fixed by release noted regarding such issues.

If your not using it and if your router is working well then you should be ok. Just be aware that SP is broke on this version of FW. V2.03 is the most stable and works well all around.

Is downgrading to 2.03NA a hassle? Or same process as updating just use whatever firmware file I'm trying to downgrade too.

I would follow the FW Update Process to ensure you are getting a clean downgrade. It's not too much of a hassle.

I would recommend configuring the router from scratch after words if you don't have a lot of configurations saved in a file.
