limit a device to 2.4 ghz side only
« on: August 11, 2018, 05:58:51 PM »

I must be missing something, but I cannot seem to find how to limit specific device(s) to only connect to the 2.4 Ghz signal. We now have quite a few smart home devices and they all are limited to 2.4 Ghz. Most of them work just fine, but I am having trouble with one in particular, that keeps disconnecting itself a couple of times a day, especially when I need to remote into it. Bad enough when I am at home, but impossible when I am not. I have already locked into onto a single IP address, but that hasn't helped.
I don't want to assign separate names to 2.4 and 5, because most devices are allowed to connect on either, as they see fit.
I'm not giving up my COVR, because in general it is far superior to any other setup I previously had. I no longer have any dead spots on the property.

That is not necessary. If a device will only work at 2.4 GHz, it will not see 5 GHz or try to connect to it.

If you have a 2.4 GHz device that loses the wifi link, it will not be because it is getting confused over which band to use. There will be some other issue.

Did you try loading the beta firmware that is posted above this thread?  It makes it so the 2.4 doesn't get locked to one channel.  I loaded it when it first came out and had no problems with it.

What FW are you currently using?
