no clear line of site
« on: December 12, 2007, 08:58:45 AM »

OK so a friend bought a dlink DIR 615 and it came with a little nic so he could connect from his office down to the garage, I am tasked with getting reception.  ::)

The distance is not too much (35-40 feet) but there is no clear line of site. So the nic finds and drops connection.  ???

Is there a recommended Antenna for either the nic so I can put it out the window, like a blade or panel? So i can get his PC to have reception.  :-\

 ;) :D ;D
thanks

What model in the Clinet Card? If it is at DWA-542, you might be able to find a D-Link ANT24-0230. It's three foot cable lead may get you out of the way of one of the "line-of-sight" limiters (desk enclosure?).

That antenna may also imporve connections to other D-Link clients -DWA-552 (pci) and DWA-556(pci-x).

Otherwise he may need to get a higher end AP (DIR-655) or Client (DWA-552, DWA-556, DWA-140, DWA-664)
Then there is "cable it up"......
