I'll pass this on.

Can you do a scan of your wifi neighborhood and tell us what is near by and what channels are being used?

How far you away from the router when you doing these scans? I presume same spot?

same place. 5 meters from the router. The speed varies greatly.

Funny that I'm finding this variation of speed more abruptly in the Dell notebook, in the mobile the speed is more constant in the speedtest.
Dell notebook = 30, 60, 80, 120, 150 (Dell 7460, wireless card Qualcomm QCA61X4a)
Android = always 103 to 105 in the band 5 ghz.
Wired always gives 150mb.

Are you testing with a speed testing site?  Which one?
Can you test with some shared recourses on a LAN wired PC and a wireless laptop...

Any software to do local network speed test?

Friend, you're right, testing for internet meters, I'm always slow on wifi and with good cable speed. When I download Ubuntu, I reach the maximum speed on both the wifi and the cable. It is only strange that I use these speedtest and they give a value in the cable and another in the wifi but in fact I am receiving all the potential of the network since in real situations of download everything is ok.

When I had the time and testing routers, I would set up a server PC connected with and test PC to the router alone. Set up wifi SSID so nobody would connect and run local tests with the router using LAN wired and wireless connections. Testing with large files placed on both PCs. Share out the folder on the server PC and did Read and Write tests with the large files back and forth on the test PC. Found this to be a good test and more towards what users would be doing on occasion for file xfers. Good way to exercise the LAN and wifi speeds.
Can find sample of my test results for the 880L here:

Furry friend, I'm inclined to swap out all the wiring in my network, take the generic connectors, the generic cables, and plug furakawa cat6 cables and Panduit connectors. In this way shot once for all the bottleneck points. I have noticed instabilities and after the exchange of one of the cables has improved enough, reflecting even in the wifi.

Well I did all my tests with local short CAT6 patch cables for my testing..

However if you seem to notice issues with your cabling, then maybe it's time to upgraded. I used CAT6A in wall and CAT6 patch from wall to devices.

update to 1.20b failed. history: auto updated to v1.20 then came to this forum to find out a 1.20b existed along with an update procedure. downloaded the zip and attempted to install transitional version of firmware v111b04 per instructions - this failed (due to sys being at v1.20?)

QUESTION: can I upgrade  by using DIR890LA1_FW120b01.bin from  v1.20?

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

Did you install the transitional FW version file before you sent the v1.20 version file? There is two FW files in the zip file. You have to install the transitional version first before installing v1.20.

Fully read the FW update instructions for v1.20 before upgrading.

Hows the WRT working out for you?

Funny you touch the subject. Yesterday I installed dd-wrt, many functions, wonderful but I could not put  wifi to work 100%, always with low speeds. Then I went back to the original firmware and it is 100% my wifi, I made all the updates through the GUI, starting directly from 1.09 to 1.20 and then I did the 30/30/30 reset, wifi working well.

Until then I used the router without the modem of the operator, used the VLAN 600 but now I am testing with the modem of the operator (POWEBOX SEAGECOM), apparently it is more stable.

Before the dir-890 was doing PPPOE on the VLAN 600. Now I'm testing with the modem of the internet carrier and the dlink receiving the signal through DHCP.

A pity that now who manages my network is sagencom 2764 (terrible equipment, blocked by the internet operator) but still, it seems to be more stable than the dlink doing the pppoe on vlan 600.

It would be wonderful if the original firmware had at least 1/3 of the dd-wrt functions. The fact that you can make vlans on each door is sensational. Advertising blocker and other wonderful functions. It would be great to have a high-end router for enthusiasts who already came with advanced features in the original firmware.

Sounds interesting.

I don't recommend doing any 30/30/30 resets on D-Link routers. Isn't needed. Just factory resets before and after Updates is all thats needed.

Heard many issues in recent WRT versions. Not sure whats going on over there.  ::) Wireless drivers are the same and what D-Link uses since it's in the GPL core coming from D-Link.  ;)
