Title: dir-865l pppoe NAT speed problem
Post by: TheIceMan on April 02, 2014, 06:01:11 AM
i just upgrade my internet connection to 1gbit, the connection works fine
with direct cable, but if i use the dlink router i only get routed 250mbit/sec.
i turned off qos and also the firewall to test, the speed is the same.
i tested different firmware from 1.03 to 1.06 the speed is the same.
i the router reviews i found online the tests indicate a 930mbit routing speed.
how can i get the same speed ? please help.

thank you

there is something wrong with the router, when i start downloading from a ftp site
it starts around 400mbit and then gets down to around 250.
the administration page is not accessible until the download ends.
and other webpage are loading very slowly.
i think the cpu of the router is very busy, how can we fix that ?

i have the mtu now 1492 , should i change it to 1508 ?

lan to lan transfers work fine around 800-900mbit from my nas to my pc.
the cables are okey, i have tested then with lan transfers, they work okey at 1gbit.

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

Yes try 1500 for the MTU.  I believe thats the max the router will do for MTU. MTU 1500 is max. I'd phone contact your ISP and as them about the MTU value...

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.

3rd Party Security Software Configurations

Can you access the admin page using a different PC while the FTP is going on?

What region are you located?

FW Update Process (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42457.0)

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

Let us know what they say.

today i've been with the router to an other location that has a 500mbit connection the problems
remain de same, i get around 300mb/sec with 1.05 firmware. i think there is something wrong
with the router, the way it does NAT, does it support hardware NAT ?
if there is something wrong with the firmware who should i email ?

in the weekend i'll make a test been 2 pc and try to test the wan - lan speed my self.

Have you loaded this v1.00B24 to see if it resolves this problem?

i've made some tests, the NAT problem seems to affect only the pppoe connection.
if i use a static ip for wan with 2 pc the NAT speeds are around 900mbit

yes , i did install v1.00B24, doesn't fix the problem.
i installed all the firmware that i could find on any dlink ftp, nothing.

i am trying to find v1.03B01, this has the pppoe fix.

Firmware: DIR865LA1_FW103B01.bin Hardware: wrgac01 (bcm4706+bcm4331 11gn + bcm4360 11ac) Date: 2012/10/22

Problems Resolved:

   Add pppoe/PPTP/L2TP NAT acceleration.
Fix mdns packet(multicast packet) lose in 2.4G after several hours.
After download config setting, then change setting and reboot. The management username/password will change to default(admin/blank).
Add mydlink API error check in wifi security setting.
[IPV6] Solve the problem that after setting IPv6 to PPPoE with create a new session, IPv4 Internet connection is changed to last time mode.
[IPV6] Solve the problem that while setting IPv6 to share with IPv4, DNS settings cannot be modified and the warning message is displayed.
[IPv6]Modify the behavior of dhcp6c as follows:

    a. At first, we use ::/56 for default pd hint.
    b. Then we use the last time pd hint if the connection is reconnected.

For your region I'd try this site and contact someone on the phone there:
http://www.dlink.ru/ua/ (http://www.dlink.ru/ua/)

Let us know how it goes.

FYI, this model has been phased out so I'm not sure if you'll get any help with it.

There is GPL code for it though...

What I think you need to do is to use this version, then also extract the v1.03 files and put them into the v1.00 GPL code and rebuild. I've asked a forum member to have a look at this and see if he can help you take a look at this.

You might down load the v1.06 GPL so your using the last GPL version, then incorporate the v1.03 PPPoE fixes into it and rebuild. If this can be done.

i decided not to waste any more time on this, i returned the dlink 865l and i got a tp-link wdr3600.
its has lower specs, only 300mbit on 2.4 and 5.0, but NAT work fine around 940 mb/sec and i can do
with wireless N for now, i have only one AC device, my phone.

i am really sorry for the d-link router, i had a 855 before 865L and it worked 5 years with no flows.

regarding the broadcom module that enables hardware nat its not open source, i couldn't find anything
helpful so i ended the search. one thing i can tell you, nobody that makes custom firmwares has this
feature running, so the only way to get support is from the manufacture.

Good Luck.

I see there is newer GPL code for the 865L.  :-\

Seems that if you have a Static IP address the router performs up to 900Mb on this configuration. While PPPoE, it seems that the speeds are much lower. This maybe a incompatibility issue with PPPoE connections.

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.
