Media files supported by the upnp av server?
« on: October 26, 2008, 03:51:55 AM »

Is there any documentation what is supported by the upnp av server?

Though I've enabled the upnp server, i'm not sure if it is really working.

If on windows media player, if I enable sharing, under network, I'm able to see the icon with the film and music note icon to denote media sharing enabled.

On the DNS-343, I do not see similar icon displayed, wonder if that is normal?

What about OGG Vorbis, FLAC, APE, AAC/M4A ? Matroska (MKV) files and ISO images also are not supported  :(   Any chances for update ?
Conceptronic has added FLAC, IFO, ISO, MKV, M2TS, VC1, DIVX, AAC, M4A, SUB, APE, FLV, DV support in their CH3SNAS (1.04 firmware) so it is technically possible.

It can be requested and if approved the UPnP AV Media Server may be updated if possible.

Can I add another request for the UPnP support of .m4a files? Please please please? I have a receiver that can't read iTunes shares, and about half of my music library is in the .m4a format... A broader format support would be really appreciated...

So, Please?

I'll add that to the list. It is supported in the iTunes server and not the AV media server so it may be a limitation to our abilities due to copyright issues but I will add it and see what happens in future firmware.

It sure would be nice to play .m2ts and .ts files.  I have a hauppauge HD PVR and the native record format is .m2ts.  I can play the files if I change the file extension to .mp4 but then it prevents me from editing my files.  It would really be nice not to change the file extension.

Thanks!

This seems like a simple thing to do.  It has been months with no updates.  Any plans to implement any of these file formats?
