DIR-615 Fails to Install
« on: December 19, 2007, 03:00:29 PM »

Just purchased the DIR-615 to replace DI-624.
When I inserted the CD to run the router setup wizard, the software fails "DemoShield Player has stopped working".
Anyone else seen this problem and if so, how did you get around it?
I'm running Vista Home Premium.

You can get around it by not using the CD and instead performing a manual installation.

If you are using PPPoE make sure you know your username and password to your ISP.

Instruction for most ISP below.

Some DSL providers

Most Cable companies.

In both cases you may want to unplug power to your modem (for 10 minutes) before you start plugging in the new router (data and power)

I got a DGL-4100 hundred awhile ago. Threw the CD away as soon as I opened the box, same thing when I got my DIR-655.

The default IP of a Dlink router is 192.168.0.1, Username: admin, password blank.

The help link in most routers will tell you how to configure the device. the FAQs Dlink has posted are pretty helpfull as well.

then of course there is always the free support, which sometimes doesnt have the best phone connection but is pretty good for assisting with configurations for any device that says Dlink on it.

The CD is basically a Manual that allows you to click next instead of turn the page.

Yes ,  the Install cds are not needed to setup the router, I suggest that you follow the above information, however there is 3rd party software that you might want to try such as Network Magic which provides File sharing, security features and other functions and since Dlink has a partnership with Network magic, I suggest for all to try it out.
