dir-655 http log in firmware 1.02 vista ultimate 64
« on: July 28, 2007, 04:27:52 PM »

hi, for information, i post an topic to explain my litlle problem that i have these last hours.
first, sorry for my english (i 'm belgium, and speak french). I buy four days ago an d-link dir-655.
Back to home i decided to install the hardware.
I put my modem in bridge mode, connect it to wan port port of dir-655, turn on the modem, wait few minutes, turn on the dir-655, wait few minutes, connect my pc to the rj-45 of the dir-655 and start the installation with the setup utlility d-link. At the end, these utlity says to me that i was connected to the net.
In french, we say ''nickel" (perfect). My speed of my net (download, upload) was the best that i never have. Almost the maximum of my connexion. I was very happy but...
When i decide to connect in http mode to my dir-655, i have a blank page nearby like this:

____________________________________________________
endtr-->

(button)reboot (button)rebootlater

login
____________________________________________________

the login word is not a button but reboot and rebootlater are button. If i push reboot or rebootlater, nothing happens.
So i can not configure my dir-655, desactivate wireless, make upgrade of my dir-655, change password, anything else.
I try to connect with mozilla firefox 2, but the same page come.
So as i was able to go to the net, i try to find a forum which could help me.
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r18756135-Help-Me-DIR655-http-log-in-page#18766194
At the end, some people thinks it was java which was the problem, and invite me to try to reinstall vista. gladly, i have a friend of my who have an xp pc portable (carry pc perhaps). He comes and we have try to connect to dir-655. That s go on. Immédiatly, i make uprgrade of firmware of the dir-655 from 1.02 to 1.04. I try with my vista pc which could connect very well on the http "http://192.168.0.1/"
I don't know if the fault was vista ultimate 64 bit, the firmware, the fact that i could login with the xp pc, the internet explorer 7.0... Now it works well, hope anyone should not have the same problem. To see the http page i have you should go to the forum where i have post. I can not post attachments for my jpeg, sorry.

I blame IE 7.0.

Java = Sun

Bill hates Sun.

The below is taken from memory so is probably flawed, feel free to correct it if you know better.
<Gross Simplification from Memory><History Lesson>
Way back in the olden times Sun released their language (Java) and accompanying tools (JVM) for anyone to use and distribute as long as they did not modify it (this is a very gross simplification check out the modern license at Sun.com if you like).
Microsoft included the Win32 JVM (Java Virtual Machine) with Windows and all was well.
Microsoft modified Java to create J# violating their license.
Sun sued Microsoft.
Microsoft can no longer distribute the JVM with Windows (or other Microsoft products) and must have users download it manually.
<Gross Simplification from Memory><History Lesson>

As for the problem at hand I know this is traditionally an English language forum but I am not seeing the problem very clearly, could you post the problem in French as well so that if we have any fluent (or better yet native) users they might be able to better understand the problem.

Vincere,
Do you have a 10/100/1000 card in your computer?
Did vista automatically turn on Jumbo Frames?

The DIR-655's administration page does not support frames larger than 4099.

Try setting your Jumbo Frame size to something below 4099 (4K) or turning Jumbo Frames off altogether and test if you can get to the administration page.

That is the error page the DIR gives when a client is running jumbo frames that are above the 4099 MTU block.
Lower your MTU, it will go away.
